Sure Because when you’re paying £63m, you’re buying goals, results and aiming for success, not profit.
You do understand Newcastle have to sell players ? Any player is for sale at the right price whoever you are tbh. If someone offers 100 million plus he'll be sold and he'll want to go aswel.
Players shouldn't have to tell us it's the way it works. It's the reason he came here and the reason he's probably going to get an opportunity to move up another level at some point. Do I want that to happen ? Of course not, but I don't think anyone with a basic knowledge of the sport should be overly shocked if it happens. Lets just hope it doesn't.
Yes but it’s got to make a dent in PSR. Selling Bruno makes far more sense. £100m, £65m profit and one year away from financial freedom so to speak. We have so many midfielders and two strikers. If we sell Isak for £100m we can’t even afford Sesko to replace him.
Personally I'm hoping they both stay for one more push at top 4 next season. Selling Longstaff and several other plodders would be far more ideal. Sell them on ebay for anything you can... like a jumble sale event.
As you know Longstaff has to stay for homegrown. Almiron will go with possibly a few alongside. I’ve heard they may just cash in on Minteh purely because he’s got way more value than Murphy. Targett is up for sale, should be easy to shift. I actually don’t think we’ll sell any yet. I think we’ve got one more season to really give it a go with what we’ve got before anyone makes their mind up. Real are buying Mbappe so not sure how they could go for Bruno.
Basically it’s one more year to see if Howe can cut it, and for these players to work out how far they want to go. It’s a good deal.
Newcastle have plenty of home growns coming through. Longstaff would represent pure profit and would make sense if someone was daft enough to pay the fee. The reality is that they won't sell Longstaff, but someone has to go this summer. Guimareas I feel will say fairwell unfortunately.
And they've recently said his injury is even worse than first feared. He could be out for a LONG time, or one of those permacrocks who just gets injured again every time they come back.
The thing is every window for decades people have been saying get rid of the deadwood, but it never happens because nobody wants it. I would bet that the mass majority of deadwood remains and the top deck has a few changes made to it. The underbelly of plodders will basically remain.
What we do need to be better at is not giving the deadwood new/extended contracts. As you say, it's hard to sell crap, but at least get rid at end of contract (and save on wages), not offer new deals.
Who from the top table would we be letting go of? Isak still has 5 years remaining on his deal unless it's an insane bid I can't see it happening. Bruno just signed a new deal this year. Joelinton the same and even more recent. Tonali not even started yet so will be staying, owes us. Gordon again only been here 18 months and loving it. Botman injured and not going anywhere. With the contracts of Ritchie (45k), Dummy (£35k), Gillespie (£10k), Karius (£10k) that's 100k off the wage bill before selling anyone. (https://www.capology.com/club/newcastle/salaries/) Say Krafth (£55k), Dubravka (£40k), Miggy (£60k) and Target (£100k) also went that's £350k - including the above - Pipe dream I know but none of those bar Miggy really get game time currently anyway so wouldn't be a massive miss to the squad if we bought in a GK, CB and RW we'd have decent cover still. Murphy (£35k) and Wilson (£45k) other potentials and another 80k savings there. Willock would be one I could see as a bit of a surprise sale (£80k) or maybe Trippier (£120k)? If all of those 12 went (8 really as the ones on free I wouldn't count) you'd be saving £635k per week and need a GK, CB, RW, CF and maybe another winger. For 12 out you could bring in 5 to balance the squad on £125k each...
We're never getting rid of matt targett. We'd only be able to get rid of him if we agree to pay part of his wages. Literally the most terrible piece of business since eddie joined. 100k a week for that tosser.
West ham would be mental enough to take him and pay him big wages - there would be potential buyers out there but your right we'd probably need to subsidise those wages to the tune of £20-50k
Yeah I've said you need a keeper - Rambo is on £120k at Arsenal sitting on the bench so think he'd jump at the chance to come here on similar wages. Not suggesting they are what I would do personally but I was giving examples that you could clear some big wages while retaining our better players
Are you seriously suggesting we go for Ramsdale? He's not better than Pope at shot stopping. Maybe better on the ground but he's a bit error prone.
