Do you know what the budget is? Have we spent it all? **** we are "doomed" Being serious we are after a cb so relax a little
Out of that crop the two I always rated were Sims and Valery. Those are the two I was sure would be PL players and I've said as much on the academy thread here since I joined the forum. I just hope he gets the same kind patience and run of games that Mane/Redmond got before they got going. But we'll have to see what happens in pre season i guess. I certainly wouldn't be replacing him unless I had to though.
Not said we are doomed or that I know what are budget is. Only that if we were to spend another £15m on a forward, after already spending £30m (+Danny Ings) I'd worry we might not end up with enough a decent CB: think that is fair enough. Seems case is closed anyway:
Is this comparing Sims to Mane and Redmond? Forget the few numpties that moaned at Mane, you could see he was a huge talent from his first game. Redmond also was clearly someone who was at home in the PL. This isn’t about patience for me. I’m not moaning at Sims or saying “get him out.” Just saying I don’t believe he is the right level we need and if he’s moved on, that’s fine.
Exactly, you could see Sim's huge talent from his first game for u23's back when he was 16. this is my viewpoint on Sims, right down to ignoring the numpties. His development has stalled over the last few years due to injury and not getting gametime at a higher level, i dont think he's had a good run of games even for the u23's since he was 19 and he outgrew them, but he has huge talent. Fast, good ball control, good cross with both feet, scores goals with both feet. and he has managed to apply that on occasion at the highest level, for example the games mentioned as well as cup games against arsenal etc. what he's lacking isn't talent but the experience and confidence to be able to apply that talent consistently. If he's not going to get that for the first team then sure, loan him out(his contract worries me). but i think its a big mistake to lose him.
https://readarsenal.com/2019/07/05/arsenal-interested-in-kanneman-is-it-a-deal-that-makes-sense/ Talk that Arsenal interested in a defender and that Saints are also interested.
Ings.......board announced (Or someone did) the £20 million came out of last years budget, not this and was already accounted for.
Was just thinking......You guys that know about these things is there any proven CB out there that we know is better than what we have??
I'd say Kannemann is better than any defender we have currently but it's hard to argue he is proven as he hasn't played outside of South America and is currently playing in Brazil which has a notoriously disparate standard of football over the course of a season, even for the big clubs because of the State Championships.
If we were to follow our current 'form book' the probability would suggest its highly likely. However, odds are there to be beaten, here's hoping...
You may well be right about his ability and potential. I hope you are. But for his own sake, he needs to play. So if he’s not a definite part of the manager’s plans for this coming season, it’s in his own interest to go somewhere where he would be.
Same for quite a few of our academy products. Theres a group of them that aren't young anymore but are still considered young by us lot. They were young when they first broke through but then never really played for the first team and have just been in this limbo for season after season. They need to be playing football and for teams that want them and will use them.
Like I said, I think he is a cracking player. Bit too soon to say whether he'll be a good PL player as he really hasn't had that many minutes on the pitch. I think he can change a game like he did against Spurs but he needs to learn how to adapt when the defence has him marked out for attention. Too promising to let go IMO.
