a couple of seasons ago we were forced to play Stevens and Maya for a fair few games. Yes, you remember a few big mistakes, but their goals against record was very good
I might be very naive, but to me it seems inconceivable that a professional athlete could ever be content to be paid - however generously - not to play. These guys have such short careers, surely they want to prove themselves on the pitch (any ****ing pitch)?
Agreed. Unless they are a fraud, and genuinely don't believe they are good enough to earn what they are on.
Depends on the person I would say, and what stage of their career they are at as well I suppose. I would quite happily sit on the bench for £100k a week rather than play week in week out for £50k, but that is probably unsurprising coming from me
Well yeah, but it’s different for keepers for all sorts of reasons. Mainly because you can only have one of them on the pitch. All of them have had to wait for their chance, before grabbing it with <ahem> both hands.
As saints fans it is strange that we are even debating it! We should know from our current predicament that players are happy to either sit on/in the bench/stands or go out on loan as they are on bigger wages than they can get elsewhere. Clasie is the perfect example

Won everything at Chelsea didn't he? Earnt a fortune on the way and got pretty awesome at golf I hear during his time at City. Oh and is married to Frankie from the Saturdays, I'm sure he is gutted.
I dunno, didn’t follow his Chelsea career that closely. Thought Ashley Cole arrived and consigned him to the bench for most of it?
