Not sure if you are joking or not but I never mentioned genitals I left it blank to fill in your own word no offence meant
Yep. Somewhere along the line, we apparently decided that we wanted to have a flat wage structure, where all of our first team players were on similar money. The downside is that this meant that our good players were underpaid relative to what they could get elsewhere, and our bad players were hopelessly overpaid and couldn't be shifted. It was an odd idea.
Sadly, that has an all-true ring about it. Here's a little screenshot I found from just a few years back: I remember they were all talking about Champions League and whether Saints might be the real deal. Yeah, we were. Then we were quietly dissembled to make sure we weren't anymore.
The last 50 years or so have been pretty good for our modest club considering its' history before that and we will always be at the mercy of bigger and richer ones, especially in the current mega rich CL era.
I don't want it to be a modest club. I want it to have some balls and ambition, apart from the footballs. We showed the way to Leicester City and they truly did something. Now the big clubs have made that even harder, but if we're here to make up the numbers then we might as well forget the whole thing. There's no point in coming 10th if you don't have a plan to come 1st.
If it is that easy why aren't all the middle sized clubs doing it? Without a mega rich investor coming in we will have to do it by being a well run club producing our own talent.
I'm actually proud of our record of seasons and european qualifications in the top league in the last 50 years, i'm sure lots of other clubs fans would've liked a similar record.
It's not that. It's attitude. You wouldn't hear anyone refer to Portsmouth FC as a modest club. They be flattened before the sentence was out. Besides which, one middle sized club did do do the big deed quite recently. Real life wears one down, and miracles tend not to happen. But this is football and anything ought to be possible. Even if it is only once. Southampton can't keep on being mediocre. A football club should never be content with making up the numbers.
I’ve supported Saints for the best part of 60 years, and we’ve won just one trophy, plus the JPT, in that time. I’m ready for another one!
