Do you think this is a big risk Beef? I cannot see where we are going to make much money from sales of the players on the alleged Ralphs List? Our wage bill was running at around £74 million on the 1st team squad of around 29 players including Gabbiadini and Davis. We are now saving around £7 million in wages from selling /realeasing them 2 with approx £10 million banked on Gabbi sale. Of those with 1 year left on their contracts are: 1.Austin 70k £3.64 million salary 2. Long 60k £3.12 million salary 3.Soares £65k £3.38 million salary 4.Yoshida 50k £2.60 salary 5. Sims £18k £936k salary Guess we just need to hope that some club will pay £4-£5 million each for Austin and Long, and then we just have to pay the discrepancy for the last year of their contract as they will not get offered this salary else where. And hopefully a bit more for Soares, again having to pay any discrepancy in his new salary. Other rumoured Sales: 1. Hoedt £60k £3.12 million salary ( No chance of any club matching these wages) 2. Clasie £50k £2.60 million salary (Will have to sell on a free to get rid of wages) 3. Stephens £48k £2.496 million salary (No chance as 3 year left on contract, so £7.5 million salary owing) 4. Gallagher £40k £2.080 million salary (Sell for £5 million but will have to pay him off as 2 years left) 5. Carrillo £60k £3.12 million salary (2 years left on contract, no one will match wages) Plus we will need to offer Redmond and Hojbjerg new contracts as in to the last 2 years of contract. Will just be surprised if club spend big money before shifting players as the above will be very difficult to move on and will not generate a big pot of transfer funds, but will free up plenty of wages. These big contracts make it near on impossible to sell players like Forster who we still owe approx £11 million in salary alone. Oh well, as always, I’m sure it will be an interesting summer.
If true I like the idea that we can buy some players without relying on the sale of others...a couple of judicious buys could make all the difference. And not being quite as pessimistic as Brixham….I agree that we would struggle to clear all those players, but I suspect the club is banking on being able to sell or loan out enough to free up some money.
We certainly won't get massive money for them, though in some instances I suspect that you're underestimating the likelihood that a player will take a short-term wage cut for a longer deal and the opportunity to play more. If Gallagher's on £40k (and that's a big if; it's a guesstimation from the guy who contracts for Football Manager), it's still quite possibly in his interests to take £28k or something on a four-year deal, if it means improved career opportunities. That's doubly true for the older players with just one year remaining; assuming that they wish to extend their careers at the highest level, they would be wise to take a bit less in exchange for a long term. That said, there are a few there that we aren't going to be able to sell, barring a miracle. Forster is going nowhere; Hoedt would be difficult to shift permanently; Clasie is probably going to have to be loaned out for his final year.
Well it'll be good to get them in, And we can build on that.. This summer we will have to take a massive loss just to get our self back self sufficient.
We won’t pay the full wage outstanding. We pay the balance of our wage minus their new wage, and if they ask for a transfer that also has impact.
It’s been said that we are bending over backwards to please Ralph as per agreement when he came here........if we didn’t spend cash on his targets...........I think he would be gone.
I agree with all the above mentioned, but it will be a massive change in policy and a big financial gamble. Can’t see many asking for a transfer. I agree with SF86, that maybe the club will look at a loss this season, and use as a rebuild. Speculate to accumulate? Will be a lot of pressure on Ralph if he gets what he wants, but maybe this is a way to buy his loyalty, and the reason for all the changes at boardroom level?
I don't blame anyone on a good contract trying to get the best deal they can for themselves and their family....it's only fans who'd throw away millions in income in order to feel good in their skins Remember it's the club's fault that these players are in this position...the club hired them and agreed to their wages. However, I expect some of these players will be willing to compromise if a decent club comes in for them. I'm sure the club has no expectations that they will solve the problem of unwanted players overnight. And by then we will have other unwanted players because sadly that happens to every club every season...let's hope it gets fewer every year. At least hopefully we won't be paying off unwanted managers.
https://readsouthampton.com/2019/05/29/burnley-reportedly-target-harrison-reed/ Burnley and Norwich said to be interested in taking Harrison Reed on loan. Speculation that Ralph feels this will be best for the player....suggesting of course that he doesn't see him getting much game time with Saints. I know Harry is 24 but I still see more potential there and would be sorry to see him sold, so another loan might be an option, but this must surely be the last one as he deserves to forge a career with a permanent club if we aren't going to commit to playing him. Nice player.
If we're not going to use Reed now he needs to be sold. Though I've said that for the last 2 seasons at least.
If he is going to be like 5th choice here or a loan to another PL team where he will play is the option I'd loan him. Gives the opportunity for him to show what he can do in the PL and we could sell him for more next summer if he does well
Plus if he has a good season and starts regularly, he can't play against us which has to be a good thing
Reed only has two years remaining; I don't think there's any certainty that Reed after a solid season in the PL sells for much more. He's also 24 years old and has played all of 73 minutes in the league for us in the past four seasons (and the minutes equivalent of 9 games in the whole of his career). If we still can't find a place for him in the squad, it's time to find him a permanent team that actually wants him.
Perhaps it is time to move him on if he hasn't forced himself into the team by now...still a shame though as he has potential.
Not enough to make him a part of our plans, apparently. I like Reed. I'd be happy to give Reed a real role. But we can't keep warehousing these players in the off chance that we maybe kinda want them at some future point; either we play him (and not just keep him as a backup-to-the-backup-to-the-backup), or we sell him at this point.
You were blooming quick....I was talking at cross purposes about Sims so deleted it. You have now put it out there
Up early doing some work before going to work, and kept my tabs open...I can't resist clicking on it when it gets the little red notification.
C'mon, c'mon guys & gals...this is far too good an opportunity to miss: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48449380 PS: Not sure if the ink is blue enough
