Italy vs Germany a few years back where he dominated a world class back line.

Agree, they are far and few between. <ok>

Either way - I want neither at this club.

Not sure Balotelli dominated the back line. It was still Pirlo and co. He did score 2 goals though, not much more in that tournament. Whilst Balotelli has his good points and i think he gets unfair critism from the Pool fans (i don't think hes that lazy) and they have made him a scape goat, he has massively under achieved (whether you blame him, the style or rodgers for not using him properly)

Agree he's underachieved but he was poorly managed last season - Rodgers chucked the lad under the bus at every opportunity, even when he wasn't playing! Even the captain had a go at Mario for scoring a winning penalty.

He's not that lazy, but if people have a problem with his lack of mobiltiy, then they won't be impressed with Benteke.

This fit crap amazes me.

I'm done with Rodgers and have been for 10 months.... lfc don't have a "style" Rodgers has a style and that will be gone soon enough.

Look back toshack. .. not a small man. Rush was fast but not that small. Rafa bought morientes and then crouch for a reason. The list would go on and on.

The only two issues with benter are

1. Injuries

2. Price.

That's it end of for me.

True but those guys have had good seasons recently - Benteke's one great season was 2-3 years ago.

And with the lieks of Lacazette and Auba - I can afford to be lenient towards their records because a) they have more potential, b) better suited to our style of play c) delivered similar if not better stats than Benteke but at a higher level.

Benteke had a good season last year when he was fully fit. 12 goals in 12 games is pretty good going if you ask me

BTW I for one am glad the club have looked at a situation of

  1. haggle for a month and maybe save a couple of million in a last minute deadline day deal
  2. have a settled player ready to start the season
And finally chosen option 2 for once

haha i like that. Ever the optimist. Bigger fanboy the fanboy MITO!

I have never seen balotelli be unplayable. I've seen him hide I've seen him run away from goal but really trouble a CB that much? Nope.

Benteke I've seen destroy a CB and dominate. Albeit in the context of villa in a relegation dog fight.

We should at least say he is 24 and since the age of 20 he's had lambert running the show and villa in a relegation fight all the time.

Let's at least say let's see how he steps up here in level. Surely we at least have to give a guy who's just coming of age.

Same for lovern ffs. He's 25. If he fails his year fine but he's got to give a lot more.

In fairness to Balotelli I think it would've been at least interesting to see him develop the partnership with Sturridge we saw in probably our best performance of the season against Spurs. Due to injuries and a truck load of other reasons we never got to see that, though.

This is the thing. Everyone mentions that he scored 12 in 12 after he recovered from injury.

He was fit for most of the season - he only missed the first 6 games. He was shocking for the next 20 odd games until Timmy came to the club and started lumping the ball to him.

Then also look at the season before that - he had a good start to the season then went on a massive barren spell.

Clip of him taking on fox sports saying he was disappointed with how things were left...

shoukdnt have been been such a bellend then <doh>

Sterling was attending the match against City’s sister club having completed his £49 million move from Liverpool.
The England international was sitting in the stands when he was picked out by the TV cameras for the big screen – and was promptly met with a chorus of boos.
Sterling cracked a smile, as did some of his new team-mates, but it must have been an uncomfortable moment for the young forward.
