Ebenezer Cobb Morley statue: FA to meet Hull City fan Oliver Harsley please log in to view this image Hull City will set up a meeting between the FA and a teenager who is campaigning to put up a statue of Ebenezer Cobb Morley in the city. Mr Morley, who was born in Hull in 1831, was a founding member of the Football Association (FA) and drew up the first official rules on which the modern game is based. Cottingham High school pupil Oliver Harsley created a Twitter account – @ForStatue – last weekend. Using the hashtag #StatueForEbenezer, the 15-year-old has already gathered hundreds of followers, including Hull City legend Dean Windass. He wants a life-sized bronze statue placed either at the KC Stadium or in Freetown Way, close to where Morley is thought to have lived. James Mooney, of Hull City, said: "In principle, we would love for this to come to fruition. "Under the right circumstances we would like to work with Oliver to make this happen. "But there are a number of hurdles to overcome first. "In the meantime, we are setting up a meeting between Oliver and the FA." Oliver, who is an avid Tigers fan, has been researching the life on Mr Morley. He said: "I have known about Morley for some time as my dad used to talk about him. "I have done my research and know everything I can about him. "He created the rules and made the game what it is today. "It makes me proud to be from the same place as him, but hardly anyone knows about him, even here in the city. "I want Hull to be recognised as the home of football." The only nod to Mr Morley in Hull is a plaque at the KC put up last year to mark the 150th anniversary of the FA. Oliver, of north Hull, said: "I would like a life-sized bronze statue put up, perhaps at the KC Stadium or near where he was born. "I only started the campaign on Friday and already have almost 400 followers. It has just grown and grown. "The feedback has been really good and I have had some nice comments." The tricky part will be trying to raise the cash. Oliver said: "It will cost about £30,000 so we need financial backing from somewhere. "I have talked to Hull City and hope to speak to the FA and the council." A series of events took place last year to celebrate the FA's anniversary and Mr Morley was a central figure. As part of the closing celebrations, the FA tidied up his grave, which lay largely forgotten and overgrown in the London district of Barnes. Anniversary celebrations included a search for living descendants of the eight "founding fathers". Unfortunately, the FA could find no descendants of Mr Morley to attend a special celebration at Wembley. Mr Morley devised the official football rule book and created the rules for the FA cup as one of the eight "founding fathers" who put together the rules of the beautiful game in 1863. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Eben...tory-23220950-detail/story.html#ixzz3GOt5JGHp
