In the last few years I've watched: Shameless, IT Crowd, Peep Show, How Not to Live your Life, Roman's Empire, Lead Balloon, Nathan Barley (from memory). All these shows are better than anything the US has made since Frasier, and we're a tiny country compared to them!!!

English comedy (not cartoon stuff like Simpsons I mean acted stuff) is sooooooooooooooooooo much better than US shows. Pretty much every successful English sitcom has been copied (Office) or an attempt has been made (IT crowd). The US win when it comes to big productions, the UK just can't keep up financially with the big american production houses.

I should have started with "Good English Comedy" to make myself clear

30 Rock, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Friends, Frasier, Cheers, Seinfeld, Roseannne, How I met your mother, MASH, Californication. Just off the top of my head.

I was talking about shows I thought were good, Friends might be popular but it's season after season of ****e. Heard mixed views on 3rd Rock but am planning on watching it some day. Californication, really? How i met your mother? have you seen it?

Blue Bloods would be better if the cases ran longer than and episode <ok>

Agreed, that would make it a lot better, but I hate the ****ing cheesiness of it all as well..."The Reagans"...We are the NYPD etc...Tom Selleck has gone from childhood hero with Magnum to utter **** in the space of 7 episodes:(

You've confused between American and English there, I'd say.

Monty Python, Marty Feldman, Black Adder, Who Is That Fat Bastard?, Vic Reeves, Not the 9 O'Clock News, Ripping Yarns, Fawlty Towers, Men Behaving Badly, The Office, The League of Gentlemen. Just off the top of me head. ;)

On the other hand, I don't want a US-UK dingbap FFS, in the all time top 10 TV shows - good ol' US of A, EASILY! For all of the reasons listed here, I'd also like to chip in Hill Street Blues - brilliant! For comedy shows overall, I'm not so sure.
