I think our most balanced midfield is: -----Wilshere----Song-----Diaby----- i think wenger's preferred midfield will be: -----Wilshere----Song-----Ramsey-----
I think Wenger's preferred midfield will be Song, Wilshere and Arteta. Wenger loves technical players and Arteta keeps the ball better than most even though he keeps things simple, nothing wrong with that, Xavi does the same. The player that disappoints me the most is Diaby because he has all of the natural attributes to be better than Vieira was for us, if only he could realise his potential. Diaby could rule the Premier League and I say that with no apology.
All I really want is more than a set "these 3 players will play all games" midfield. Some rotation would be great. Many were predicting that Arteta would get injured quickly and be out for months with the added pressure of Champions League games and his fitness issues in recent years. So far that's not happened, but I'd like to see him given a couple of games rest at some point or he's really going to burn out.
When all players are fit, i think Wenger prefers the midfield of --Song------Wilshere --Ramsey/Arteta---
Aye, picking players for the opponents is something i would like to see, not one team fits all, irrespective of opponents. Sometimes you need battlers, grafters, other times a bit more finesse. We have more than enough finesse players but not enough grafters in my view, badly unbalanced. We could do with a Darren Fletcher type player.
Each has his role to play in certain games. Song has had some very good moments this season, but again, there are occasions where his judgement and decision making has been way off. A few times tonight he held on to the ball too long and got it taken off for him.., AND as much as you can praise him for his amazing footwork to set up the first goal. HE also was the direct cause of us conceding, by once again holding on to it for too long, by our corner flag no less. He is a talented player, but still so very hit and miss, in tight games where control of possession is key, I can see him dropped for a returning Wilshere, giving us Ramsey - Wilshere - Arteta. Each of those three has great possession retention, and will most certainly keep us in control.
Disagree. Nobody in our MF has the ability to break up play and win the ball as well as Song. All the going forward by Song is simply a bonus. De Jong, Makalele, not even Dunga or Deschamps could pull off the skill that Song has when he is in the mood up front...but he will be every bit just as good as them on the defensive end.
He was great last night, and he's one big thing - CONSISTENT. You know what you're going to get with him. He's not a typical DM - as shown by his fantastic footwork for the assist, but he is a good, physical player. And he's improving, picking up fewer cautions and causing more problems going forward. He's unglamorous, and a quiet, family man. He doesn't turn heads or make headlines, and I like that about him. He's "under the radar" of the big teams, despite being a vital part of Arsenal's team.
Did i just read that song has no technique??? if you still believe that after watching his run and cross for rvp's 1st goal then i am seriously worried for you. When song was injured for a few weeks last year we struggled in those games because his performances always go without praise, but he wins the ball back for us on countless times and even sets up chances on occasion. Whats more is that out of wilshere ramsey arteta and song, song is the most defensive one. And it doesn't take an idiot to work out that you need a holding midfielder. Wilshere certainly isn't a holding midfielder neither is ramsey or arteta. Every team even barcelona have a holding midfielder because it allows the more creative ones the chance to go forward. Jesus christ i don't know why you can't see that.
Apparently we're all tards. All this time we've been debating whether or not Song is a good defensive midfielder and none of us comtemplated him as our new dynamic winger. Shame on us all! Absolutely awesome assist and a rock in midfield for 89% of the game. Pity he fecked it up at the end for their goal...! My MOTM, oddly enough, went to Koscielny. Thought he was incredibly solid playing at RB. It's no coincidence that we conceded after he went off. To be fair though I thought RVP, Arteta, Song and Vermaelen were all class acts and everyone else put in reasonable to very good shifts. Happy days.
the team recovered from pressure early on which we had trouble overcoming. We also gave the ball away too easily. Perhaps the loss of their 2 players caused them to lose their way, but in any case we gradually got into it. The goals came and we were on top - the rest is history. Big black mark - I thought we kept control in the dying minutes very well - then what a balls up on the touchline!!. It amazes me how we manage to concede at the death.
Whatever. Song has no technique - shimmying the ball from one foot to the other is hardly an endorsement of technique. Look at his run .. he ran into the first player then magically still ended up with the ball, the left/right shimmy was good skill - skill and technique are NOT the same thing. Just like someone who can do kick ups for hours doesn't mean he has good technique, its the way you strike the ball, its your body position, there are many factors that determine technique - not some lucky shimmy. Players with good technique are easy on the eye, they do things effortlessly, song is a clumsy oaf. If you are impressed by that little piece of skill then I can't help any of you at all. The sun shines on a dog's arse some days !
Song was immense last night. He won the ball back countless times, through the of fantastic tackling technique to win the ball cleanly. You don't seem to be able to see that Song was one of the best players on the pitch last night. He's amazingly consistent and provides a service that Arsenal require. With Wilshere in the midfield last night instead of Song that game could have turned out very very differently, and not in a positive way.
have to bring jack back slowly. then i think he will play alongside song and ramsey, although rotation will be used a lot, especially if we continue in the CC, get far in the FA cup and go long in the CL.
it will be great to have players we can bring in to spread the load - and not feel we will get exposed.
Good assist for Song last night considering his creative skills are zero! he only beat six players lol!! Wasnt it Song who picked out Van P for the winner on saturday as well, and plenty of other assists and key passes as well. Mentalist!!
