Somebody recommend some good rums then that I can get in a supermarket and I might give one a go

If you don't fancy spending a fortune I'd go with 'Kraken black rum'. If you want something spiced and trendy go for 'Sailor Jerry's' - although they've changed the recipe recently and it's not as nice imo.

'Mount Gay' is one of my favourites but I love Bajan rums so maybe a little biased with that.

I used to drink that in the Caribbean, especially the D Republic. Great stuff.

Just ordered a sneaky bottle as it's on offer <laugh>

It really is nice but a ****er of a drink as it goes down too quick, couldn't ****ing get up and wondered why until Mrs luv pointed out I'd done 3/4rs of the bottle in about an hour.

I love the Havana Club 7 year, that's my go to rum. A couple of years back I spoiled myself to a bottle of the below as a treat at Christmas and yes it was worth the money.

Never tried that, sounds nice though.

This could end up being an expensive conversation <laugh>

I quite liked this review

"I bought this as a gift for my son and he loves it, always gets him to sleep, toddlers eh?"

I do like the Appleton rums but there just seems so many to choose from and they vary so much in price. The prices are ridiculous too. It's popular in Jamaica and literally a 10th of the price. Talking of that......

I remember my first ever trip to Jamaica with my ex. We got off the plane and didn't have a hotel booked so we thought we'd get a quick bus to town and have a drink while we thought of a plan. Went to this bar, still remember it clearly called the 'Coco drinks and things' - it was a small shanty bar. I was so used to drinking measures over here I ordered 2 rums and 2 cokes, they asked me to go sit down and they'd come over and bring it. I'm sitting there and this guy comes over stoned out his face and puts 2 bottles of rum on the table and 2 big bottles of coke. He said pay later - Being on holiday and excited we done the bottles in and then asked to pay, it worked out about £7. That night we slept on a table outside the local KFC.

In future we just ordered 1 rum and coke at a time <laugh>

You should read The Rum Diary by Hunter Thompson the setting you describe reminds me of it.

About £20 but like we've both said there are better bottles ot there for that price Havana Club 7 year, Appleton Estate, Brugal all better and a similar price.

I'd go Brugal with Coke or Ginger Beer Ice and Lime for a new person to rum, you'll soon be mad into it.

I like Ginger Ale, would that work ?

Gonna get a bottle from supermercado tonight then, bit fed up with beer and whiskey puts me to sleep more easily than the meds they give Saint and his mates every afternoon in the old fogles detention centre
