Hyper milling a Tesla recorded 500 miles on one charge. (more than my car does on a tank... Granted I have a tiny tank).

The average Tesla does 265miles on a charge... And we're still in the infancy of electric cars. Over here you can drive the entire width of the country several thousand miles and they already have free "quick-filling" stations for them.

The problem is, even on a quick charge it's a 30 minute stop.

Range isn't their problem It's charge time and battery life... Both are gradually being improved.

A snip at $100k mate. Give them the beans and that range will half btw. The battery life is 8 years tops aswell, which means you'd be facing a bill equivalent to an engine change in a combustion engined car

VW made a concept car that they've since put into limited production - the XL1. A diesel hybrid that managed 313mpg. Cars based on that technology are the medium term solution imo.

Mass production cars in 20 years won't be electric imo. New technology will eventually emerge that is both practical and affordable

No.. it is battery life in several ways.

1. There is no getting away with the fact that irrespective of charge time you only barely get a commute out of a electric car. If I drove to work and home I would not be able to take someone to an event or go out for the evening or anything.

2. Charge time is 8 hours that is true the fast charge systems can cut it but it drops range

3. Car life is 5 years max and then in effect you trash it as batteries are toast.

4. Batteries have god awful routes of manufacture criss crossing globe.

5. Battery disposal is dirty.

That 5 major drawbacks before we even get to availability of charge points on the road or staying at one for hours not 2minutes to fill up.

The range one visit real. You should get 6-800 miles out of a tank of petrol. An average ****ty electric car just won't get there.

I would strongly say that the bad outweighs the good.

The simplicity of the drive train in electric cars and the vastly superior delivery of torque to accelerate are great.... but.... they are seriously inhibited by the battery technology.
