You're not being very polite. This is the 21st century you're supposed to use the pronouns based on the person's preferred gender.

Side note: does anyone recall a couple of decades back when the trans community were pushing for the third pronoun "ze" and "hir". I'm glad that didn't stick... That was really horrendous language abuse.
