the thing is they ALL go back to the same exchanges and loops so in reality all we do is move about "providers" who pretend they have higher speeds but they all end up on BT exchanges in the end. theres a cabinet someplace and then your virgin or whoever might have a local kerbisde hub that connects to it. Its all about how many people and how many connections bt allows. Your sky can be trottled badly by bt giving so many lines and sky selling more than that so it manages the amount of traffic by slowing everyone down.
I'm in constant conversation with Sky seems to be the only way to keep costs down but they always seem to give in. Got Cinema free at the moment and all the Sport for the cost off 1 channel.
I'm okay with doing it which suits me but I get that some people don't want to be spending time calling them.
If only that was the case - it’s not because virgin had to specifically set up a connection to the house which is where the issues started. In theory yeah they all piggy back on a few cables though - sky seems to plug into Bt. Its similar to phone contracts in that only really have 3 or 4 actual networks then the rest like sky piggy back into o2’s network.
I do find sky are actually very quick and easy to get hold of o be phone. When I phoned on Sunday about broadband got through to someone within 30 seconds and could help. Then put me through to someone else about tv package - and although they then faffed around cos coukd only offer me £5 discount, when I then said no and pushed back for through to someone more senior and managed to get 1/3 knocked off the current price.
personally always found Sky customer service to be really helpful where as Virgins is rubbish based on my dealings and their constant phone calls trying to get me to upgrade to their top broadband is doing my ****ing head in .
Yeah they are generally very good, I just select cancel when going through and ask if I'm through to the cancellation team as they are the ones with the big discounts.
Well it does you see. what I am saying is thst these companies are no different in terms of speed or reliability as they all go back to the same exchange. it's like buying electricity. you go find the cheapest offer for what you want and it'll be the same as any other. unless bt lay the ultra fast connectivity to the exchange near you then Virgini or sky have no chance to offer their headline grabbing speeds. if you get better service off sky or virgin or bt or by contrast terrible service then thsts as good a reason as any to change. same for speed. you won't really get different speeds off any of them for the same house, not really. if one is offering less speed then they are throttling it themselves. that's my view anyway. get your best deal possible and view it as a pure commodity.
Virgin depends how far down the line you are. First in line gets awesome feed, last is **** I'm with Virgin, get 300mb usually

I've never paid full price for it. I started off with an offer and when its time was up I cancelled it online. During the cancellation process they made me more offers. I've done this a few times now. There's a bit of brinkmanship involved, because I've never actually let it get to the point where they accepted the cancellation and I don't know what would then happen if it did. The thing is, I only want it for the football - I'm really not interested in any of their other stuff - and I think it's a lot to pay just for that. What really pisses me off is that you can pay for Sky, BT and Prime and still not get to see every game legitimately. It's crazy.
