I said to the wife when the US crept out of Afghanistan at night that i gave them 6 weeks before the taliban were back in power.

the US scurried out of the airport at kabul on the 5th july.

Today is just over 5 weeks on and kandahar has now been taken.

In effect the past 20 years and all those deaths and maimings were utterly pointless. UK politicians need to write this in indelible ink, never ever ever follow the yanks on another wild goose chase ever again. There are SO many soldiers here without legs arms, eyes etc and less visible scars for absolutely no reason.

BTW the US are now in kabul burning all American flags and documents in the embassy and evacuating all and sundry. 3000 troops sent in to do it.

That's the faith in the regime they propped up for 20 years.

The American House of cards in Afghanistan has utterly collapsed.

Nothing but a facade of warlords taking cash from.one side and talking to the other about how to take over after while supplying heroin to pass the time.

I mean it shouldn't be a shock I suppose, their Iraq facade fell through with isis virtually to the road to Baghdad after mosul.

The Iraqis only rallied after a deal with the Kurt's who were them betrayed in kind after.

The Americans will never recover from this imo. their word is mud.

They have a super power eating up influence across the globe and all that they can do is shout virus at them and moan on. They are even making mockumentaries about the coming war with China. Setting the scene for what they see as inevitable open conflict.

    Stupid in the extreme.

I can't pretend to understand the situation in Afghanistan and as far as the US is concerned, Biden doesn't seem to either.

biden has been very very much on the record all the way back to the obama days.

As he said they were not fighting for women's rights, education for girls or anything of the sort. This is a 100billion investment in killing al queda people. He sees zero value in continuing to support the afghan puppet government and never had. he has basically done the same as Trump promised.

the way it had folded has in part been down to how the US pulled out IMO but it's speed has surprised even the Americans. All the warlords just changed sides instantly and its an unopposed transition plus all the killing they like to settle scores etc.

All the little places need to see this for what it is. which superpower do you want calling the shots and are you willing to take any risk for them. America's word is not worth spit at this point. China is buying influence with hard cash and don't care what type of government they are as long as they take the cash.

I imagine the US public has been screaming to get out of there for a long time, and so he has indulged in a PR exercise based on that.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't imo. Leave them to it, and watch it all go to pot, or keep troops in there for an interminable period getting vilification for that.
The US's self-appointed world police status is at the root of all of these issues - the fact that they're in there in the first place.
On the other hand, we're all faced with the moral dilemma of how one deals with atrocities or abuses around the world.
If we ever want world peace (a long, long way off), how do we go about resolving these issues? Military intervention is unpopular and mostly unethical, other measures seem ineffective.

This is all about influence not good v evil.

absolutes do not matter. individuals don't matter to anyone. Its about who have influence around the world.

The reality is there is zero difference between trumps decision (get out) and bidens decision (get out). zero. end result is identical.

World peace is a sisyphean task!

Anyone on here get on with their family 100% of the time? Never had an argument? People have different views and opinions, throw their faiths/religions/beliefs into the mix and there is no way everyone will agree, never mind an entire world.

You can't say there's zero difference in the outcome. If people were worried with Trump in charge, they should be terrified with Biden in charge. God love him but he doesn't know what day it is let alone be the leader of the free world - whatever that means.

literally if you are sat in kabul with a daughter walking to school, whats the difference! your daughter will be taken for a taliban's wife or killed for being out of burkha and you could be killed yourself.

you are grossly underestimating biden based on a hackneyed stereotype of his age.

Biden since being VP was diametrically opposed to afghan war and has followed through. Trump promised clearly to be out by May 1 in election.

As for biden and such. best you go check all the stuff his administration has done so far and tell me its leaderless. (agree or not with calls)

Unfortunately the situation in Afghanistan is neither new or unprecedented.

Tge strife in the country has been going on for decades, exacerbated by foreign interference. Biden may well take the flak for this debacle, but it was always going to happen.

It's been a fair while since I was interested in the minute of the situation but I'm fairly sure the taliban where armed and encouraged by the US to fight against the socialist government in the past.

I may be remembering that wrong though. But it does sound familiar
