The church started off being great for education, then started killing people and burning books when it didn't like the answers
As I said before, poverty, like evil, will always be with us. We have to address both when we see them. The notion that they will never be eradicated shouldn't stop our efforts (and I'm aware that you haven't said anything to the contrary). Have you read The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist,? Tressell says that if we took the wealth of the world and redistributed it, it would take a very short time for it to end up exactly where it was. The world needs both idealists and realists.
I'm not getting involved in another debate about the atrocities committed in the name of religion. I advocate open mindedness when talking about religion but it never happens on here when a discussion about it breaks out.
There is a need for a practical approach to work alongside idealistic aims, but too often the "realist" tag is used to claim acceptance for behaviour that is nothing other than selfishness. I think I prefer the term pragmatist, though that can be hi-jacked in the same way, I suppose. To expect a perfect world is hopelessly idealistic, especially at this stage of human social development (which is still in its infancy, imo) - but significant changes have been brought about through enlightenment and not just by force.
I agree with all of this. Idealism is a lot easier to define than realism. Often realism is used when folk are too lazy or unwilling to effect change.
So Doggo is having first day out of crate. 9am to 2:30pm alone... Watching her on security camera she seems to be spending the day sleeping... On settee. (Something I was against but Mrs is encouraging... She wants dog snuggles on settee). She really is the laziest lab-mix puppy. She sleeps more than the cats. . No destructive behaviour witnessed yet in few weeks we've had her. Decided to give her a go out of crate after she became besties with our Black Maine Coon kitty (one evening the cat suddenly decided instead of hiding she was going to be friends... Now they greet each other with a nose sniff each time they see each other and seem to like being near each other... Although she still hisses when dog sniffs her butt too enthusiastically). Of the other three cats, one was ambivalent from start, another seems unbothered for the most part but spends more time in a room the dog can't access than he used to... Only one is still seriously spooked by dog, but she'll watch her from a high perch. The one that is still scared used to be the bully, so it seems almost karma she is the one still terrified. Things (so far) are going way better than expected.
I'll sort it out. Inter-dimensional travel can be taxing, but we have 'therapies' to address this issue.
Under 18's FA Youth Cup tonight LFC v Man City, could be a good watch. Stream http://cricfree.org/soccer/liverpool-u18-vs-manchester-city-u18-cfd7jjl0?l=1451863279 or this, both are buffering a bit http://wiziwig1.eu/soccer/looks-4b841b-liverpool-u18-vs-manchester-city-u18?l=1451863279
Very open game, but City are very like their first team cynical fouls to enable them to not get caught on the break. Both teams have had a few chances, LFC with the best two. Our left back looks a very decent player
what do you think of the grossly.unfair home advantage for man city... and their stupid purpose built 7000 seater youth stadium to just prove ffp means nothing
