I'm recent years it certainly seems like we are NOT given as many as we should. Definitely seems like refs very rarely give us benefit of the doubt.
TBF, every tea in league should get more penalties than they do. Referees bottle it all the time. They are quick to blow for niggly pathetic things that aren't in the box but as soon as something happens inside the area they forget where they put their whistle.
Yeah too right Skrtel would seemingly have to pull a flick knife in the box to get a pen awarded against him
In my opinion too many free kicks are awarded outside the penalty area. I wish refs would leave be more and only call on clear cut cases. How it is in the penalty box is how it should be everywhere.
There is a "perfect free kick location" a bit beyond the edge of the box where players love to flop Refs don't seems to understand many players prefer a free kick there than continuing their run and shooting in open play
No arguments from me, he should have had a lot of penalties given against him over the years. So should a lot of other defenders but Skrtel's the biggest culprit bar none.
Or the smartest by managing to bend the rules to his advantage Brighton got a pen given against them last week in 4th minute for shirt pulling in the area from corner.... Problem was, the forward has hold of the defenders arm as well. No problem with refs giving t but they need to be consistent, if you give one, it needs to be obvious and you then need to be consistent and keep giving them. Problem is they know if they do that could well be 5 pens or more in the game and people / papers would be going mental.
It would be better for the refs long term High scoring games give a greater chance for the better team to win Low scoring games mean it can often be decided by one incident, and if that incident is a ref error they are going to get loads of attention
It would only be five or more penaltiesin the first few games. Players would stop doing it if it results in a penalty!
Would they? It's become a habit now more than a tactic I think and takes more than a couple of games to get out of that habit.
