I'm all up for denial if we lose tonight (and I mean if). If we lose we go all out pretending it didn't happen just like we did a few seasons back. I'll post a thread celebrating our huge win and we'll go from there.

I love Christmas but it should not start too early I hate seeing lights up mid November or even early December. 12 days of Christmas is the way to go.

    That's nice you've got a log fire.

Def agree on your crimbo points. It's like the time from the end of September through to early Jan has just become this indistinguishable 'party / festive' season and everything's been squashed together, hallowe'en, bonfire, crimbo. It's money at the core, just aggressive capitalism which has nothing to do with the meaning of these festivals and I don't think a lot of people can even work that out. Crimbo = eating, spending, drinking, partying. Not religious but this festival does have an underlying non-religious significance. It's shouldn't be a celebration of our ****ed up economy and privileged way of life which it is for so many people.

Having all the stuff in the shops at the same time ruins it totally. I don't mind all three but they should be separate entities and there should be definitely think there needs to be some sort of buffer, not only have you got the ****ing chocolate santas in from late summer but you've got the ****ing bangers going off all times of day from mid-october. Fireworks for bonfire night should be allowed the Friday/Saturday/Sunday either side of it, if it falls during the week, and on the night itself, but only on the night itself it it falls on Fri/Sat/Sun. I do like fireworks but they're a batarding ****ing nuisance when you're trying to do something in the evening like watch a film or whatever and they terrify animals.

There's switch ons in shopping centres happening this week, it's ****ing sickening tbh. Feel bad for the kids really having something that should be a special time forced on them by money grubbing execs. Not that this isn't what a lot of it has always been about anyway. Driving around I'm looking for the first house lights to go up, won't be long now, in half a mind to go and cut the ****ing cables on the first i see :steam: <laugh>

  12. Agree with Gonzo on the twelve days, that's how it should be.

However disagree with the light switch on in town centres. They should be on for all of December. In addition, you obviously don't realise how much work goes into getting the lights switch on organised. I organise one at work (scheduled for 20 November) but we've been doing the planning since January!!!

last year i was in tescos on halloween, mustve been 3pm or something. they were actively, in the middle of the day taking the ahlloween **** down and putting up christmas shelves.. now in the middle of the DAY! when you know maybe a bargain hunter might just wander in to buy up all the stick they were throwing i nthe bin at a knock down rate and throw it in the attic til next year... nah trash it and get chrissy going eh?

I like real fireworks. the noise makers are a bit pointless to me. I didn't have too many this year.

Xmas is the dirty christmas of the german grannies, the one where they do 'stuff' with bits of bavarian gingerbread houses... there's going to be a stall/den of iniquity at the local german crimbo market

I had a few halloween ones but then there will be christmans ones too. I don't know if they had much in the line of fireworks as i didn't go looking due to kids.

Really the thing is it should be heavily licences as the stock is dangerous as sin isn't it. Pop up holiday shops i can understand and its not a bad use of a smaller retail premises in a town to rotate the stock for holidays but.... fireworks... i dunno. seems to me insurance would be a must under that law no?
