What kept it out of the public eye was cold hard cash mate.

Great talent, totally disturbed human being though and a definite nonce.

I wish there were a God- so people really could get punished if they escaped punishment on earth!

That's true, although God is too busy with his rental properties and ambassadorial duties to punish Savile and MJ.

Anyone ever play "Vampire" - ("Mafia" and "Murder" are similar games if you're familiar with them). Used to play it on one of the old forums (not football, fish forum) I used to go on.

Exact rules and roles vary per game and who is hosting it... but one example is:

The host assigns roles (secretly via PM) to each of the players... these can be
    Lead Vampire
(additional secondary vampires can be added if a large group... vampires are notified of who else is a vampire and they can communicate via PM)
    Villager
    Priest
    Seer

Each day everyone votes for who they think is a vampire (in early rounds this is a pot-shot unless someone is acting very suspicious... in later rounds you can look at who voted for whom to determine this).

Person with most votes is executed at the end of the round and the host announces what role they were. (in case of a tie, host flips a coin). Game ends when all vampires are killed- or vampires outnumber villagers (so can win vote every night).

Lead Vampire can pick one individual each night to "kill or convert"- depends on group size, but could be 50/50... heads the vampires victim dies... tails the vampires victim secretly joins the vampires. Host will announce who the victim is if he dies- but won't announce if converted. If Lead Vampire is killed- no more new vampires are created.

Seer can PM the host once a night the name of an individual and the host will tell the seer that individual's role.
The Priest can choose to protect one individual a night- if the vampires attack that person nothing happens.

Anyone can tell anyone else their "role" on the forum- or bluff saying they're someone else. Admitting you're the seer or priest will make you a target of the vampires though.

The next game thereafter is normally given to any survivor of the winning team to host next. (and set their own rules... lots of variants... sometimes not just vampires, but secondary bad group also that work against each other)

Can be quite fun and thought provoking once you get past the first few day/night cycles. Any interest in a game? Won't start a thread for it unless there is interest.

No. Never really been into that kind of thing... More into logic games...

This is more of a logic/bluffing game not a RPG- even if the "role" titles may sound like that... helps when you know the other people playing too so you can tell when they're bluffing.

You look for clues in who voted to "off others"... if people seem to be working in tandem- might mean they're communicating (and therefor the bad guys). If two or more people are in cahoots in the game- it throws suspicion on them.

I think "Mafia" is what people call a variant of this game played by people on facebook if you're familiar with that. (not on facebook so can't say).
"Murder" is what people play at dinner parties, which is similar idea, but less complex because, well, harder to be complex when not at a PC... think they tap people on back with lights out to kill them.

    EDIT: From Wiki:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(party_game)

Looks like "Vampire" as a title is unusual- Mafia or Warewolf more common- although the roles are similar.

I'm actually a bit of a nerd and find these kinds of things good, not that played something like this.
Might be tough on this forum with people not necessarily coming on every night etc?

If a game starts I'll join in though <whistle>

Cycles don't have to follow day/night cycle. On the fish forum we used to start off a day lasting 48 hours and night just as quick as it took whoevers turn it was to host to process everything.

Then we switched to 24 hr cycles to speed things up once down to last 10 or so people. No reason it couldn't run 48 hours every day cycle.

It can be "mafia" not "vampire" for those with geekophobia.. <laugh> make it sound more manly! If people were interested- probably move it to Premier League board and invite non Liverpool fans onto it... (really need at least a dozen people to make it work well)- unless there was enough interest here.

I said the rules above! <laugh>

    But to simplify the above:
Bad Guys are picked at random and notified by PM. (bad guys are allowed to communicate with each other via private messages throughout the game... good guys are on honour system not to)

Each day (doesn't have to be 24 hours) everyone votes who they want to be executed. Trick for the bad guys (Mafia, Vampires, whatever you call them) is to eliminate all the good guys (townspeople). Trick for the good guys is to identify the bad guys (look at who they vote for, etc... bad guys know each other so may team up)

There are specialist roles, I described above. It's easier to figure out by playing or watching a game in progress...

If it helps... this is a game I was in a while back (won't tell you which is me, although you could probably figure it out- I'm not the guy whose location says South Carolina he's someone else in SC):
