This is the bit I find annoying about cycling though; Never really understood why they race in teams when its a individual sport. Why didn't Froomes and whoever the other one was carry on and get a decent time before checking Cavendish was okay? Surely they could have continued with the rest of the event?

I know they don't all have to finish as its an individual sport. Sky just choose to have a team to help the main guy out somehow

Because Cav was involved in the sprint finish he would be awarded the same time as the bunch. His injuries were serious enough to prevent him continuing today,and you must start and finish every stage. There was some tough climbs today and his injury was as Gerrez pointed out.Shoulder and back damage will be painful when climbing.Its a tough sport.
Was out on one of those climbs today, Coming into Sheffield, near home. Great to see so many people out on the route.
