as I have been the main contributor (more than half the posts), it was fitting that I was promoted in the thread at the same time as Gills promotion.
I just hope we don't relegated any time soon.
but - as you know me a little - not necessarily untrue. By the way - I can accept bastard, but you hurt me when you say old.

You realise that BSG is beeling because he didn't think of that one.

I will give you the benefit of my wisdom when next we meet. Alternatively just stay tuned to this thread - you will learn much - mostly my infinite capacity to talk dribble - but just occasionally I come out with a good one.

but some leave behind memories that will live as long as we do.

Music plays a huge part in my emotions - always has done, and I hope it always will do. There are songs that are guaranteed to bring tears to my eyes, usually tears of joy, and similarly there have been live musical performances that I have found emotionally overwhelming.

One man who first generated such emotions more than 40 years ago died this week, a man with a distinctive guitar style and an equally distinctive voice of extraordinary quality.

For anyone who hasn't listened to Richie Havens, listen to the live part of Richard P Havens 1983 (released in 1969), and then to his final album 'Nobody Left To Crown' (released in 2008) and begin to understand the commitment, but gentleness and compassion of an artist and a great human being, someone who genuinely put more into the world than he took out.

I don't tweet & have no time for facebook, therefore.................
I might not be the (always) right person to comment on the situation regarding Bernadette.
You may have assessed that I have a slightly wicked (warped) sense of humour. I love nothing more than to tease. It's even better when others respond in like fashion - I see it as a challenge - but, obviously my superior wit will always win.
I'm not absolutely sure what's happened in the Bernadette 'saga'. I hope that she has misinterpreted a bit of teasing and has taken comments too seriously. If this is the case, then maybe Bernadette can understand that nothing nasty was ever intended. However...
I have met Bernadette ( as has at least one other Not606 member ) at a match last season. I would be extremely surprised if she could not be described as somebody who ''wouldn't hurt a fly' - however I guess that she may have a more sensitive nature than most. Unfortunately people in this category can be more vulnerable than others when it comes to horrible humiliation. IF any of you are being nasty you should be ashamed of yourselves.......................
I have no problem with anyone calling me a moaning old bastard - as long as I can detect a reasonable level of respect hidden within the context of the comment - the sort of level of respect that all should have for their fellow human being.*...............................

And as I can't be serious for very long

* except for a crappy linesmen, unhelpful turnstile operatives (heaven help us when photocards come in ) stupid supermarket assistants,(coconut) people who can't use roundabouts, dishonest paint manufacturers just for once etc. and, of course all those lovely people at the F.A. - the ones that can't tell when a player has stamped all over another.
* Feel free to add to the list - but please do it in a respectful way

alwaysright - I can only make an assumption that Bernadette MIGHT have become the result of some teasing by fans, POSSIBLY at the training ground gauging by her comments. However, I cannot be sure because I was not there. Although I have seen all her Ked tweets which is showing through that vulnerable nature you mention. What Bernadette does on twitter is her business but on NOT606 I have now seen two threads from her on the topic and another post on the subject this morning. I am starting to feel her pain, so sadly I feel the time has come to take that pain out of this matter for Bernadette's well being and to give her some release from the board for the weekend.

I am not being nasty amd if I am seen as the big bad wolf then so be it, but sometimes message boards can psychologically do the opposite and eat away at you, hence making a situation worse as it draws you in. Basically rather than being a release it becomes the complete opposite as you wait for a response to your next message and next message and so on.

I want to make it clear, I have seen absolutely nothing that supports in anyway that a player is responsible for this.

I am going to ban Bernadette until this time Monday to give her some space. If people think I am wrong then they need to tell me on here and now and I will listen. I will send Bernadette a tweet to advise. This is difficult for me but I don't know what else to do, I am not a counsellor.

Thanks

That's a really nice thought alwaysright, many thanks.

I seldom go to YouTube, but this has just impelled me to investigate what else is there. From the aforementioned Richard P Havens 1883 album :

Hope that works as the code is shorter than the one you posted.

The two songs might have been recorded nearly 40 years apart, but it shows how little of the vocal quality was lost in the intervening years.

That's enough retrospect for now, but thankfully the music will live on.

I think it's time to get this thread back on track with some serious posts.

So!
Having suffered the delight of a shopping trip this week I ask a very important question, now you must bear in mind that most men don't really do shopping whilst women seem to be hard wired at birth to become experts. My question is WHY?
Do men's cloths always get stuck in the furthest most recess of the store, whether it be the lower end Primark or the high end John Lewis it's up the back in a corner, or level three, up the back in a corner. Now I don't have a problem with walking through sections for women's clothing, lingerie, back to school, 0 to 6 months, curtains and bed linen, but why? men just want to get in and get out so what's wrong with having men's clothing closest to the door.
The trouble is even with men's clothing right at the exit it still wouldn't help because of the modern system for hiding the pay desk, yes once again your forced to search every area just to pay for the item you found up the back in the corner.

It's not just in clothes shops that men have to walk miles to reach what is most important. Go into most supermarkets. If you manage to avoid the stupid assistant who could have just said that the shop had NO dried coconut -you will find that alcohol is in the furthest aisle from the front door - you can almost die of thirst getting there.

ps Dont worry about the seriousness of this thread. I will do my best to keep you entertained and educated during the summer.

Ian Duncan Smith - Secretary of State for the Department of Works & Pensions wants 'wealthy' pensioners to return various benefits to the Government.
1. The money / benefit does not belong to the Government... It's OUR taxes.
2. I would dare to say that most of the pensioners in this country have probably paid into the system for most of their lives.
3. The same pensioners have paid taxes towards the scrounging 'workshy.'
4. The same pensioners who continue to pay tax on their pensions to fund not just the workshy - but the hypocritical members of Parliament.
How on Earth has I.D. Smith got the nerve to make such a suggestion - all the time that he and the rest of the fat cats in Westminster claim for every sheet of toilet paper they use.
What's happened to 99% of the cheating 'honourable' members since their greed was exposed ? Answer = Bugger All.. Do as I say not as I do.

I've got quite few years to wait for my state pension ( despite what you may think ) - I've worked all my life. I've paid much into the system - from which our MPs take, take, take. I've got no intention of giving any more money to these greedy b******s than I cannot avoid. I would rather give it to charity.

edit - grumpygit - is that serious enough for you ?

I could not post what I think of this on here but lets put in nicer terms. He is absolutely out of order saying that people who have worked all their life should have this taken away, it don't matter if they have got a lot of money, they have paid in and also if they have they a lot of money they are likely to have paid in more than the majority of people so to say that they can't have this money is a joke.

I believe this to be a liberal suggestion more than a conservative but that is what happens when you have a coalition. But alwaysright you also forgot these suggestions come from the the same politicians that will also be claiming their expenses for attending the recent funeral of the wicked witch of the west.

No - I didn't forget anything. The list of claims for expenses by our darling MPs is actually longer than tim's thread !
I am genuinely disgusted that I.D.Smith should choose to attack the section of our society who have paid taxes all their lives - and let's not forget that some of these pensioners are War Widows - who have been 'left behind', after their loved ones died fighting for our freedom.

Always and Hoadie I'm with you on this 100%

Paid 13% into a pension scheme for 32 yrs then lambasted for having the cheek to have a good one.... How long before more demands are placed upon those who play the game, work and are honest to finance those less scrupulous, not only from our own country but those who are expected to reap more benefits travelling here from Romania etc (due to occur soon) in addition to those already here?

I am not a racist and work amongst the most diverse crew imaginable, however workers should be rewarded, not the shirkers.

The Australian prime minister has made some great statements lately regarding benefits and entitlement. Had they been made in the UK she would have been arrested and tried by the European courts (ours have no power any more......ie Mr Qatada etc). If I were of an age where I would be an acceptable addition to the Australian workforce, I would be on my way tomorrow!!

Still supporting the Gills though....<cool>

That is so true, we live in a country where we have to be too kind, I like you am no racist but I do feel that we have to treat some better than our own otherwise it is racism. There is too much intervening from the European rights. I just can't work out how we can't get rid of that Qatada, he would be out this country by this time tomorrow on a plane back to Jordan or where ever anyone wants him, he is not just a creep but also he is costing this country a lot of money. This country does not reward people who work hard they just take more and more and more and if we keep doing this then it will actually affect the amount of people that work hard as they will feel that if you work hard you get more taken and this is not fair and this really annoys me about this country.

I think that changes need to be made in this country as this is one think that I have strong views on as I think there is too much taking from people and not enough giving back as why should people have to pay in for the people who out of their own choice decide not to work (I am not talking about people with disabilities here as I know that there are many that can't work and that is fair and I know this from first-hand experience in my family) however I think this is wrong, why do people have the choice that if they don't want to work that they don't work, it should be a law. There are jobs out there for them and although they are not good jobs (depends on how you look at them) they are jobs and that is what they should do. It doesn't matter if you are a trained accountant, you can't just wait for an accountancy job to come up and think you are too good to do other jobs, if there is a job as a bin man then do that, it is a job and at the end of the day it pays.

I think that we need to make sure that people work and stop taking off people and paying this to the people that cannot be arsed to work as this culture is wrong. I like how you have mentioned Australia as they are a good example of a country which only wants the people who provide something to their country, they will not just let in anyone, you have to prove that you will add to their country and that you have skills and that you will work which is what this country should do, however as well as that there also comes a limit and in a time that they say there is not enough jobs then why are we letting in so many people from Europe to take the jobs, these should be taken by people in this country so outsourcing needs to stop.
I could go on for ages about this as I have a lot of views over this current government as I believe they are completely out of touch and I think the ways that people have to pay in is wrong and if it don’t change then we will lose all the good people who work hard in this country as they will see that it is not worth working in this country as you are not rewarded for what you do.

I have always said that it is the 'system' that is wrong. I hate scroungers - but I can understand them! If you are a lazy sod, we have a benefit system that anyone can abuse. This system was created by politicians who wanted to satisfy enough people to secure their votes - so that, in turn, the MPs can then grab as much as they can whilst in Westminster. The trouble is that these politicians make promises knowing full well that the money they are going to 'throw away' is our taxes.
I agree with you, and have no problem in supporting those unfortunate members of our society that physically cannot work -but
The system needs to change - so that it is not an advantage if you do not want to work.
