I wonder if Scally could try selling sand to the Arabs ?

It seems like some people will buy anything. Would you buy Gills tickets for fictitious Premier League games ?

    edit .... after tonight's game ; a ticket for a Wembley final

And they're still being greedy !

If it costs them 50% more - WE pay 50+% more.

If it costs them 50% less - WE pay 75%

That's what's happening to the price of oil and fuel at the pumps........ and let's not forget that the energy companies are also paying less to produce their stuff - but have any of them reduced their prices to reflect their lower running costs ?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30693905

    It pays to advertise

well it must do on the BBC !! It's very soon time for me to renew my television licence - to watch a network on which there is no advertising ( yeah right )

I've just been watching the sports report on the BBC News. They showed the reporter, Mike Bushell, at the crease of an indoor cricket nets. I wasn't surprised to see advertising hoardings for Investec in front and behind the wicket.

The sports report then went outdoors to Stuart Broad and a pro golfer practising. There were similar Investec advertising flags and signs on the Tee & green. Broad even wore a woolly hat with the Investec logo.

I'm pretty sure that Investec would have paid for all that advertising - so why not go the whole hog and accept advertising throughout the programs on BBC -and do away with the licence fee.

Edit - today the same reporter was doing a piece on brisk walking - wearing ADIDAS gear - I could tell it was Adidas despite the black tape that had been put over half the logo !! Why ?? - wouldn't Adidas pay up ?

It doesn't seem right to disrespect referees

especially after the linesman gave us a penalty yesterday - but
I might just ask Vertonghen what he thinks -- the referee was right behind the player ( about 5 yards inside his own half ) when between them, the officials somehow thought he was offside !!

And, of course, Burnley were hard done by when their defender was wrestled to the ground - as both he and the Palace forward were just off the pitch before the Palace forward crossed the ball leading to a goal.

Evil - and we must never forget it !

Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of the end of the Haulocast - If any of you have seen any of the programs this week, on the subject, you cannot have failed to be disgusted and ashamed at mans' inhumanity towards other humans - yet evil still exists in the World.

I fear for Kenji Goto and the Jordanian pilot held by extremists of Islamic State. Only a miracle will prevent them being the next victims to suffer brutally at the hands of terrorists. BUT the World must not give in to their demands. The woman they want released - to spare the lives of these hostages is awaiting a death sentence - because she was part of an attack in 2005 when 60 people were killed. It would have been more - but the explosives belt she was wearing, during the suicide attack failed to detonate.-- So if the World releases this woman will she spend the rest of her days doing housework ? To give in to the demands of terrorists will simply make for more trouble.

Evil is still out there - we must never give in. The World must fight evil - to eradicate it from our society - unfortunately there will be more innocent blood spilled until there is peace in the World - because unless the World strives for peace, it will descend into savagery.

Let's not forget - Evil triumphs only where good men do nothing.

Do they still teach Algebra ? - Obviously grammar is off the menu !

What a waste of time - I've never had to use it. I can sympathise with the students in this article.

Is anyone else annoyed when, as you type, words are automatically underlined in red, even though they are correctly spelt ?(spelled - is Americanism)
    - have a nice day! - shopping or whatever you do when you don't go to Gills matches. I might go swimming.

Time for a long overdue moan....about Sky & BT Open....when will the government break up this monopoly!

Is it acceptable in the 21st Century technological age to be 6 weeks without phone and internet?

We do our banking, our shopping, our bill paying, our communications from business to social media all online.

Oh i have a phone i hear u say...well yeah if i wanted to drive a mile up the road to pick up a signal.

The government want x amount of people to be online within certain timescales, well you need to make sure the infrastructure is in place before agreeing planning on continual building of thousands of more homes.

Speak to a Sky agent and they claim to be experts, they might claim to be but in their very own words it's out of their hands!

They tested my line days before a move and it was already in place, in fact it stayed in place until two days before broadband connection and then suddenly disappeared without warning or notice that the engineer would now not be calling. When challenged Sky claimed they had broken the rules of OFCOM and reported themselves...great that helped me no end.

The problem was, I then had to wait for a completely new line to be put in at the exchange and despite many questions, I never did get an answer to where the original line went too. So let me fabricate a story to help them, dare i suggest that BT Open took it for one of their very own customers?

If in the unlikely case that did happen would that not be breaking trading regulations?

Hence the stories I was told....Sky said it was a Virgin line, really!

Virgin are not in this area, so i thought benefit of doubt and i will check. Virgin confirmed they had not been at the property for at least two years and when they were in situ, they piggy backed off a BT line.

So it is clear here that BT Open hold all the reigns, don't sound much like fair competition to me.

What's funny on a least two ocassions as Sky so called experts do....they read from a script...next time you can use online to contact us...ummm...I guess they really are as dumb as they seem, or the corporation has just got to big and too greedy, forgetting to put the customer first. Despite dozens of calls to resolve this problem, not one agent takes ownership of the issue, you are just passed from pillar to post.

Frustrated....you bet i am, an experience I will never forget and that above is only part of the story and i've not even started yet on their breach of information data.

    brb,
I know the problems you can experience with tech companies, I have BT phone and BT internet, I also use BT email, so isn't it strange that when BT sport sends me email it is directed to the junk folder.

In the case you speak of I know that BT pay higher rates to open reach to ensure customers are dealt with promptly, it's the same as delivery companies where you have the choice of 3 to 5 days or next day delivery, you pay for what you get.
A lot of internet companies pay for a lower grade of service and that's what they get, obviously they don't tell you that when offering deals that under cut BT charges, you only find out once you have a problem.

brb & grumpygit not happy with their value for money !

What do you think about this : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21238363

Without tax it's 33 pence a litre - unless you're in Venezuela, in which case you pay as much as just under 3 pence a litre.

.......and, of course the prices of our gas & electricity should be a lot lower - but the utility companies talk about buying their fuel in the 'futures' market - therefore they can't immediately pass on the 50% reduction in the price of oil over the last 6 months - well I doubt that we'll see that level of reduction in our energy bills ----ANY time in the 'future.'

Do the BBC want to kill Graham Bell ?

I love to watch Ski Sunday. You probably know that one of the presenters, Graham Bell, goes down the course - to give viewers an idea of what it's like for the competitors.
He is shown holding a hand-held camera whilst trying to hold on to his ski poles - necessary to help stabilise him . He clearly struggles to juggle the ski sticks and hold on to the camera -whilst just about not breaking his neck as he struggles to keep upright at speeds approaching 80 mph.

why can't he just have a helmet camera ?

So Rooney wasn't interfering with play !

He was 4 yards off the goal line - about 2 yards 'offside' - had to step back to avoid the shot from Herrera hitting him - and none of this, according to Phil Dowd, was interfering with play !

WELL -What would you do ?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-31780074

On the way to the match yesterday, I saw a parking ticket on a car. The car was in a very quiet residential street half a mile from the ground. The rear wheels of the car was only about one foot over the start of the double yellow lines. The car wasn't really doing any harm by this minor infringement. There was absolutely no need for the ticket to be issued. Can't we have a system whereby the parking attendants can issue advice notices in these circumstances ?
To answer my own question - I had a similar experience to that in the link ( not quite so much money ) - AND I wasn't able to buy a ticket because of the malfunction - but I DID hand in the cash.

ps - do parking attendants only work on football match days ? --- and -- what do they look like ?- when was the last time you didn't see one hiding - waiting to pounce during their 90 minute working life.

Just a question while on the topic of parking tickets. What's the technicalities on double yellow lines if there is no time plate?

Can a warden still issue a ticket...how far away position can a time plate be from a parked location, does it have to be the same side of the road as the parked vehicle.

Reason for the question is because how do you know the restriction if there is no time plate, or is it right to assume that legally double yellows mean no parking what so ever, regardless of a time plate...hmmm

Double yellow lines means no parking - at all - no need for time plates ( only required for single yellow lines )
I won't bother to post the link for all the regulations.......

...... of course it may depend on who you are ! -- I am aware that a local 'prominent' figure pleaded not guilty to parking on zig zag lines of a pedestrian crossing - and was acquitted - because the black & white markings on the accompanying belisha beacons were painted in the incorrect proportions !! - and it was claimed that this person didn't know it was a pedestrian crossing !!!! ( scratch my back your worships )

That sort of nonsense goes on all the time, and it is not the spirit of the law!! There are parking bays outside my office and they are painted incorrectly and so people park in them, don't pay and then can dispute parking tickets because it is the wrong shade of white or whatever.

It's7.50 am on a Sunday morning

you are a mile out of the town centre - in a very quiet road - in which stands the local church. What do you expect to find ?
    1. The Church
    2.The Vicar
    3. A parking attendant picking on the one car in the local area that dared to be on double yellow lines

No prizes for the correct answer - or for saying what happened next ! - I don't think he did his chances of going to Heaven any good.
