I saw the article in the BBC News website. I too do not buy newspapers anymore for many reasons - including the ones you have quoted.

Is revered by much of the rest of the world. Renowned for its' fairness.
So when (unlikely) that I get caught speeding 4 times, I might just start doing charity work and see where that gets me.
Flintoff has been told that he can't use the 'exceptional hardship' excuse again. Why not ? - surely the same 'exceptional hardship' would probably still exist - so why would it be fair to THEN 'punish' those who would be affected by a driving ban for Freddie ?
Surely the magistrates realise that speed kills. It is more luck than judgement that Flintoff hasn't killed anyone with his speeding - yet ! Fatalities of road collisions are no less dead just because a 'celebrity' was driving.

... mind you - yesterday I was having a row with my neighbour long before this time of the day ! *

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28978540
I find it repulsive that a company can complain of having profits of 'only' about £2.4 BILLION instead of £2.8 BILLION.
Either way that works out to over £ 100 every SECOND !

From what I can see, Tesco want to dominate in every aspect of public spending - and that (so far), the only thing you can't buy in their stores is sexual services.
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    * I was only trying to repair a leaking ball valve - what was I supposed to do ? - have a flood. She moaned MORE when I explained the reason for the (very little) noise I created (no hammers involved) ! -- the job took only a few minutes.

It wasn't as if she was in bed asleep - SHE had shoved a note through my door at 6.00am ( waking ME ), to alert of my dripping overflow which she had seen.

Some of you might recall my love of the music of the late Richie Havens.

For anyone who shares even a part of my passion, or has even just an occasional interest, I've just found this semi-private recording from 2008 which will also give a greater insight into the man.

    https://soundcloud.com/mvyradio/294108-richie_havens-mp3

It's so wonderfully relaxed and personal with some great live music.

It seems that austerity is NOT something in which 'we're all in it together.'
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-29098334

The MPs don't have to accept the 9% pay rise ! The deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg has said that he is against the pay rise - the MPs can just say "No" -- but will they ? -- I reckon Gills will be champions of L1 this season before that happens.

Let's not forget - £74,000 will be the 'starting' figure. The top chaps & lassies will get a lot more -- and they'll all be piling on their EXPENSES on top.

I've said before - there's only one thing in which the rest of us are in together ( including Gills if we keep on leaking goals )

A month ago I changed my energy supplier. I was with one of the 'big six' suppliers. I went on the meerkat website and was given a list of alternative suppliers.
I chose an independent supplier who weren't quite the cheapest - but best suited my needs. I am now paying less than I was over two years ago - and the price is fixed until August 2015.

At the weekend I got a 'cold' telephone call from one of the big 6 suppliers ( not my previous supplier )- to advise me of an opportunity to get cheap energy. The first question they asked was for the name of my existing supplier. As soon I told them - the caller said " Well I'll be honest with you - we can't match their prices, so I'll not waste any more of your time."

I was impressed - firstly that it would seem that I chose wisely to switch to my current supplier - but also with the honesty of my caller.

We don't seem to be able to stop these cold calls ( despite taking steps with the telephone preference service ) - but have I discovered a way to cut short the call ? Just tell the caller you are a customer of their biggest rival !

I think that I've mentioned that I hate cheating, and I've said that I wouldn't want my team to win by cheating.

I'm watching the Czech v Netherlands game. The Dutch No.11 has been fouled - and somehow manages to roll 6 times !!!!!!
( that's one exclamation mark for each roll ) -

No prizes for guessing the reason. To me this sort of behaviour is akin to a dive in the penalty area and should be rewarded with a yellow card.

I believe the Scottish quest for independence has raised bigger repercussions, than just the outcome of the final vote. I believe it has broken the Union. After all how in an entire population of £60+ million people in the UK...can less than 4 million votes cast, decide on the state and future of the land.

I'm all for democracy and listening to the minority of state, but i feel it is wrong that England for decades and generations has taken hits from all directions in the verbal stakes.

It is time for those in England to have their stay, if other parts of the Union are allowed their vote and say, we want ours, or i certainly do.

I am not interested in the oil debates or any other reasons why we should be one, hardship follows freedom but maybe it is the greater release for the future.

Like a divorce of a couple, you can't have one hand saying you have no say, while the opposite number makes all the claims, collections and demands. I have nothing against any other members of the Union but what is good for one, must also be equal for the other.

Time to vote for English Independence NOW.

I have a lttle Satnav, It sits there in my car
A Satnav is a driver's friend, it tells you where you are.
I have a little Satnav, I've had it all my life
It's better than the normal ones, my Satnav is my wife.

It gives me full instructions, especially how to drive
It's sixty miles an hour, it says, You're doing sixty five.
It tells me when to stop and start, and when to use the brake
And tells me that it's never ever, safe to overtake.

It tells me when a light is red, and when it goes to green
It seems to know instinctively, just when to intervene.
It lists the vehicles just in front, and all those to the rear
And taking this into account, it specifies my gear.

I'm sure no other driver, has so helpful a device
For when we leave and lock the car, it still gives its advice.
It fills me up with counselling, each journey's pretty fraught
So why don't I exchange it, and get a quieter sort?

Ah well, you see, it cleans the house, makes sure I'm properly fed
It washes all my shirts and things, and keeps me warm in bed!
Despite all these advantages, and my tendency to scoff,
I only wish that now and then, I could turn the bugger off.

well done - It's amazing what you can do when you haven't got football as a distraction.

I've never really excelled at poetry - I prefer gibberish - which is usually enhanced when I too haven't got football as a distraction - hence my 'contributions' today in the 'Taxi for Pete' & 'Star Player / Fleetwood' threads. Goodness knows what I'd do on a Saturday if / when the FA kick us out of the league.

I woke up this morning covered in raffle tickets. I'm really worried that I might have contracted tombola.

    Patience is a virtue........................

but it will mean that you'll have a lot of time to polish your halo whilst waiting for that elusive victory - and waiting is all you can do. You have no control over the timing of the event ------- a bit like what I'm enduring with Tesco in the last week or so !

Early last week I ordered a couple of bulky items from their Direct department. I received an e mail and text to inform me that delivery would be between 0700-1700 on Friday - So I make arrangements to be in during those times.

Mid Friday I get an emial to say that due to high demand of the products there would be a delay to the delivery - now scheduled for Saturday (0700-1700) - just as well I wasn't going to Fleetwood.

About the time Gills were 0-1, I got more misery in the form of an email to say that due to high demand of the product, delivery was being put back to Monday ( 0700-1700) - so I had to make arrangements to be 'available'

On Monday I telephoned Tesco to ask if I could collect from the store - because I had no confidence that the items would be despatched on that day - and that I couldn't keep waiting in over several days. Answer = " No." - because, allegedly they were unable to change the delivery instructions once the order had been confirmed.

Later on that day ( Monday) I received an email. Guess what it said ? 'due to high demand' etc etc etc etc - delivery now Tuesday.
Around 5pm on that day ( Monday ) there is a knock on the door - it was Tesco Direct delivery service - delivering ONE of the TWO items I had ordered. Naturally the courier knew nothing about the other item. He did enquire if I had been having problems with the delivery - I spared him the full story. I asked him what would have happened if I hadn't been indoors for the delivery. To my utter horror he showed me that he had instructions to leave the item(s) with my neighbour. - -that would have really brought on the pains.

As for the second item - well today I got an e mail saying 'due to high demand of the product' etc etc - expect delivery on Wednesday (0700-1700)

I despair - but I'm unsure if the desperation is for a Gills victory or the lack of movement in the Tesco despatch room.

Now I've got to get back to polishing my halo.

    Well done.
    My faith has been rewarded.
    It's finally arrived.
I'm so glad I have been patient.....
I'm actually talking about all the items I've been waiting to be delivered by Tesco.......... You didn't think I was talking about a Gillingham victory ? - that's been lost in the post - but let's all hope that the men from the Orient come bearing gifts for us on Saturday.

my original version of this post had a misspelling in the title. I wrote 'All god things...' - maybe I had it right in the first place - perhaps we can only hope in Divine intervention to prevent relegation this season.

ps - sorry for all the recent doom and gloom - I can't (3)points to the reason for it.

I think it's a real shame to see 'great' players being reduced to selling such a prized possession. Surely there can be no greater prize in football ? No reason is given for the sale of the medal - but I suspect that financial 'hardship' is involved. If THAT is the reason, it is sad to think that modern players at the top level are being paid £ 1 Million a MONTH - for not doing a lot in comparison with World Cup winners.

I hope that the medal can be bought by the FA for their museum rather than by a private buyer who will use it as a status symbol.

Just watched The News on BBC. The main news finished with a lengthy weather forecast - lasting at least a minute.

Then you get the local news. BBC South East gave less than 10 seconds to the Gills game last night - in fact they showed Loft striking the ball - but cut off the clip long before the ball got anywhere near the Crawley goal - then gave us a REPEAT of the weather forecast I had heard a few minutes earlier.

The football coverage was abysmal - deserving of an apology to Loft. ---- and why do we need TWO weather forecasts with each news ? - can't wait to pay my TV licence again early in the new Year - perhaps I should offer to pay only half to reflect the repeats we get !
