That works out at an average of less than 50 pence each ! and with their 50 pence donation on Red Nose Day, it brings it up to £ 1 for the year !
( IF you bother to 'Gift Aid' it would, technically, be worth an extra 25p.)

I sincerely and greatly admire all who can only afford 50 pence - but surely we can do better than that ?

I remember a 'discussion' on this subject last year in this forum. General apathy prevailed on that occasion. For those who might wish to remind me - No I didn't 'give' to this appeal in 2012. Nor this year - for the same reason as existed last year - although I have answered the Phillipines appeal !

I have also increased my total charitable donations to around 20% (+) of my net income ( because - thankfully I can afford to do so ).

My ( long winded ) point is that we need to understand just how lucky we are in comparison to those less fortunate ( wherever in the World ) and try to dig a little bit deeper into our pockets to help. Without wishing to seem ungrateful, I think that the average person in the UK can find more than 50 pence that is at their disposal....................

How many shops would go out of business this Christmas if we only spent an average of 50 pence on presents ? ( let alone the gluttony )

I love dogs. I have had the privilege of being 'owned' by a couple in my time (No, not my wife !).

However when I see some people's behaviour with their pets, especially dogs, I question which should be in possession of the lead ( as succinctly put by brb in the camel thread. )

On Saturday we encountered a dog owner who was definitely more 'mad' than dog - and got progressively more insane the more he opened his mouth to bark !

A group of about a dozen of us were at a pick up point for the coach to Sheffield Utd when a chap with dog came charging through us ! It appeared that his dog was desperately trying to walk around us whilst its' 'pet' was intent on clattering through our group. As this idiot was intent on making his life difficult - rather than enjoying a dogs life - the group, out of sympathy for the dog, parted to allow the little canine through.( I said canine !! )

I made a comment to my camel friend that anyone with common sense would have walked around us or on the opposite kerb. I was deliberately loud enough to be audible to the dog walker. Although I do have a serious, sensitive and caring side to my nature, I also have a low threshold for a complete lack of common sense. ( especially when I don't have to live next to it ! ) see my signature

The chap obviously heard me and 'bit'. He stopped, turned and asked for the comment to be repeated - probably inquisitively to establish the identity of the smartarse. I told him that nobody was talking to him. He responded by saying "Yeah, but you're talking about me." I repeated that it would have made more sense not to try to walk through the group. He then said that he had the 'right of way.' I knew what he meant - but decided that he had not suffered any ritual humiliation for the sufferance of the dog, so I told him that we too were pedestrians and had a right to occupy the footpath as much as anyone else.... I was trying to descend to his level of 'intelligence' so that he might better understand how ridiculous he sounded. I think I was wasting my time. The chap then changed the subject to begin to insult football supporters. All the time he seemed to get increasingly wound up - and walked away in quite a foul mood.

Comments were made by members of the group - which included inviting the chap onto the coach. I said that he seemed miserable enough without having to suffer watching the Gills. The members of the group burst into collective laughter - as did the chaps' dog !

In all honesty the only reason we remained polite as a group was because of the dog. However, the owner seemed to think his pet gave him some automatic right of way to charge through our group. To which i hasten to add i gave way for the dog not for its wound up owner who needed to be scooped up and wrapped in a doggy bag. I suppose if a warden had been around we would have been fined for a leaving a foul smelling lump still standing on the pavement.

All said with humour...something the dog owner would not understand.

At long last comparison websites are being investigated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). In particular motor insurers.

After last week's episode with the idiotic dog walker who tried to bulldoze his way through a group of Gills fans waiting to board the coach, it appears that, today I stumbled across some relatives who was taking charge of the one brain cell they share ! ( it's the brain cell that tells them to get dressed in the morning )

I was leaving the car park of my local supermarket. I drove out of my parking place and commenced to drive along the 'roadway' between the parking spaces. Mercifully my speed was only 10-15 mph.

A man and a woman, aged about 30 emerged from in between 2 parked cars, no more than about 15 feet in front of me.They looked in my direction - so I assume they saw me !- but then walked straight in front of my car. I had to brake sharply to avoid hitting them.

As I came to a stop I saw them look at me. Were they surprised when I offered a bit of road safety advice by pointing a finger to my eyes.

The woman then shreiked in my direction " Pedestrians have the right of way. "
She was only missing a dog - although I suspect the the chap in toe was probably a poodle.

I could only shake my head in disbelief.

One of my sons has recently purchased a Nintendo 3dsxl. He had it deleivered in the post. It came without the free AC adaptor ( was forgotten by the supplier ) - so unnecessary aggravation to acquire the item. He had to go to his local store and make the purchase of an adaptor - and now has to return the receipt to the shop's distribution centre to get a refund of.................
£3.60 ............because that is how much it (the adaptor) cost ! ( I doubt if he'll bother )

What is the point in not including the adaptor in the box - its' size (the box), wouldn't need to be increased by much to accomodate.

I appreciate that it may be powered by batteries - but how long would they last in this type of equipment ?
I can't believe that it's a gimmick to try to reduce the price of the consol ! I'd better be careful the next time I buy a car - and check that it has fuel in the tank ( or I might just push the car to save on running costs )

Miscommunication - and NOTHING to do with Mr.Scally ! honestly

Firstly apologies for the bad language
[NSFW]if it looks like **** and smells like **** - it probably is ****[/NSFW]

A couple of days ago I had a call on my mobile from a PPI claimant company - despite the fact that I had pressed option 9 on a previous call from that compnay.
I decided to opt for a callback so that I could plead in person.
The company duly phoned me today.

PPI. " Are you interested in claiming a refund on a missold PPI ?"
Me. " I'm interested in why I cannot cancel your calls despite pressing option 9 on previous occasions? You keep making unsolicited calls to me. "
PPI. "This isn't an unsolicited call - you chose to receive a callback."
Me. " That's right - because you keep on making unsolicited calls to me - despite me pressing option 9. You're wasting my time and your time by continuing to make these unsolicited calls. "
    PPI. " The calls are not unsolicited"............ I interrupted the chap - I felt as if I had stumbled into Monty Python's argument clinic ! I then said;
Me. " If I have not sought any dealings with your company - if I have not asked you to call me - if I do not want you to call me - if I have complied with your instruction to press 9 to opt out of further calls - and you continue to make them - then they become unsolicited calls - which are illegal." I then disconnected the call.

alwaysright - i've got that Python sketch running through my head now, where despite being given many opportunities to relent to argument, you chop his arms and legs off, only to be told by the limbless torso...'alright we'll call it a draw!'

Was that the 5 minute argument or the 10 minute argument?

it was only about a minute -but with me that seems like half an hour - Mr.Scally would be more than glad to open his door at the alloted end of the session to allow me to leave before injury time - instead of demoting a steward for doing the very same when 90 minutes was up ( instead of the final whistle )...... this happened at the Brackley game - when, at 90 minutes the gates were open for those fans who wanted to participate in the 'fire drill' - pathetic reaction to a faithful servant of the club for many, many years ( what chance have fans got ?)

You know what I really mean !

Last season the game ended in bad spirits all round ( Vincelot being almost killed ) After the match the fans were directed ALL the way around the stadium - through the home fans, before reaching the safety of the coaches.

Yesterday, after the game our coaches were waiting at a point directly adjacent to the car park entrance outside of the away end. Were we allowed to enter the car park at this point and walk under 50 yards to the coaches ? --- NO !

We had to walk to the far end of the ground - again through the fans of Rotherham - to enter the slip road leading to the car park - where our coaches were waiting. The distance was about 200 yards. We had fans who have mobility problems - including a fan with an artificial leg - old female passengers who struggle to walk etc.

Apart from anything else why have they got an entrance into their car park at the away end - where the stewards positioned the coaches if we wasn't going to be allowed to use it - for the comfort & safety of all involved ?

I've never met your neighbour so can only make assumptions via what you have to endure. Loneliness does some weird things to the mind, some quite traumatic, so if she is not suffering from dementia then it's another answer I can give for her behaviour. I know some people will think loneliness, I must be crazy one I hear some say, but truly in latter years of life, this needs to be watched out for as much has dementia.

No answers will fit all, even a doctor might not be the answer but it would be a good first call. Although doubt she would go. Maybe she just needs to get out more, some sort of community groups if she is able. The alternative and most drastic answer is a home for the elderly, which although frowned upon can be their saviour (for company), you'd be absolutely amazed how behaviour can change. Mental ability/agility works in strange ways and is never understood.

She's still going on about my relationship with her ex hairdresser - as well as the broken fencing in the high winds a couple of weeks ago.

My neighbour thinks that I have spied through her window - to somehow read the phone number of her ex hairdresser - on a card on her kitchen table !!( x-ray vision ) - so that I could use it etc. My neighbour said that her ex hairdresser screamed at her at their last meeting - with the poor girl offering her mobile phone to my neighbour - to read the texts and phone numbers - to prove that none of them came from me.

I told my neighbour that I would be perfectly happy for her to be supplied with my phone usage from my telephone company - to show whom I call and the calls & texts I receive - to prove to her that I have had nothing to do with her ex hairdresser.( well, not by phone !)

My neighbour then started on about the fence panels - that she now accuses me of breaking........ I switched off and turned to go through my front door .

( and earlier today, I had 'dealt', without any complaint, with the latest pile of leaves that she keeps on depositing at my front door. )
