THAT is why men have no chance of understanding the mind of women - only another woman would have automatically known that a third vacuum cleaner was going to be present.
What I cannot understand is why did women ever want 'equality' - surely that is lowering their standards ? If they think that WE are stupid - what does that make them ? - they didn't have to choose to be our 'better halves.'

In case I have offended any female members - in my defence I wish to plead 'insanity.' ( a statutory disclaimer has been in my signature.)

    Simply Posh

For how long am I 'grounded' ? If I promise to do the washing up and hang out the laundry and clean the bathroom will I be allowed my pocket money ? - and in future I promise not to be stupid - - and will ask the GPS location of any electrical appliance which my mother would like me to use. How dare I try to second guess the mind of a woman !

Did you mean 'known'? ( sorry for second guessing )

If you think it's strange that my mother has 3 vacuum cleaners in one room, then can you imagine my dilemma if she asked me to tell her the time. In her lounge she has 7 ( seven ) clocks. Each one displays a different time to the others - some by several hours. I would be afraid that I wouldn't know which 'time' to reveal as an answer. I would probably get it wrong 7 times as she comes back at me to finally demand that I look at the time on her wristwatch which she keeps in a drawer.

Simply Posh - my christian name derives from Roman times and means ' humble. '

    anyway - enough of that.

I WILL NOT HAVE ANYONE SAYING THAT MR. SCALLY IS GREEDY - he doesn't own an energy company

Today I got a letter from my energy supplier to inform me of their price rises. It included all the usual rubbish about wholesale price rises - not being in their control. What they failed to state that wholesale prices had, on average only increased by 1.5%, yet their increases ( within their control ) were 9.4% for gas & 11.4% for electricity.

They provided me with a grid of old/new prices. When I got my calculator out I saw that the gas increase wasn't 9.4% but 11.03% .( I 'ignored' the v.a.t element of both old & new figures ). I then noticed something more scary than anything you'll find in Halloween week.

I saw that the daily standing charge had been increased - but not referred to in the main text of their letter. The increase was over 62% !!!

Naturally I contacted the company to ask for clarification - only to be told that the figures were correct - but the adviser was unable to deny my calculations for the gas increase compared to the one they published.

As I had no grievance with the adviser I remained polite and calm with him. I sympathised with him that he had to answer calls of complaint. I asked him if his bosses had given instruction with answers to customers when they complain of the obscene price rises. He stated that he had received NO instruction. Although I invited him to comment on the disproportionate price rises and the disgusting increase of daily standing charges, he declined.

Gills next away game is at Sheffield Utd. THIS -plus the awful journey to Port Vale on Saturday reminded me of a time I visited Sheffield - with my sister-in-law in the back seat - giving directions ( because she claimed to know the route to our destination ).

Driving through the busy city centre we came to a crossroads where she told me " You need to turn right here. " Being the good driver that I am, I looked in my rear view mirror before giving any signal ahead of the manoeuvre.

It's just as well that I did look in the mirror - because I saw that my sister-in-law was gesturing with outstretched left hand ! ( towards the left ) I quickly asked " Left or Right ? " She replied " Left." Later I asked why she said right, but pointed left - she claimed that she gets her left and right hands confused with each other.

and she didn't even want to use the car !

I visited a friend today - who lives on a busy road - with very few places to park -- no matter, I wasn't staying as such - just going to deliver a small item that he had wanted to buy from me.

On my arrival the nearest parking place was directly opposite - but involved parking in front of a driveway. There was a car in situ in the driveway. I guessed that I wouldn't be causing a problem - especially as I intended to be no more than a couple of minutes... and I would be remaining in sight all the time.

So I parked my car and conducted my visit at the doorstep across the road. It lasted a couple of minutes. I then returned to my vehicle to leave to go home. I was then confronted by the resident outside whose house I had parked. She proceeded to rip my head off because I had parked in front of her driveway. I felt that she had overreacted, but didn't say so - partly because I didn't want to embarrass my friend.

I apologised for causing any inconvenience - but politely pointed out that I had been only a couple of minutes, and that I was across & if she wanted to use her car she only had to ask and I wouldn't have hesitated.

She said that she had no intention of using her car again today !! --- but I still shouldn't have parked in front of her drive. I said I had only been a couple of minutes and didn't think (given her admission that she hadn't needed to use her car ) that I was causing any problem. She had got her 'second wind' on the subject and continued to have her rant. I again apologised, bade her goodbye and left.

    What was her problem ?

Firstly I wish to apologise for any hint of humour in this thread.

I quite like to do gardening - and have taken to doing some as voluntary work. Should I be worried that people will look upon me as a rapist ?

I am struggling to find suitable words to describe my thoughts about the so-called 'justice' in the punishment in the attached link. Cutting grass is easy - not like vacuum cleaning my mum's stairs !
How would you feel if the victim was a member of your family ? Actually it doesn't matter wether or not you are related to the victim.

I would be genuinely grateful for an answer to the riddle ( I don't expect a definitive response from the fellas )

As you know the weather was quite windy the other day. In the morning I saw that two fence panels belonging to my 'windy' neighbour had been blown into my garden. These panels were from the ' other ' side of her garden. When I ventured outside I returned these panels into her garden.

Today my neighbour spoke to me - I really cannot make out the point she was trying to make - can anyone enlighten me ?

She said that the 'person' who was responsible for her damaged panels was 'seen.' !! I waited for further information - but she just stared at me as I stood in front of her. When it was clear that she wasn't going to elaborate, I asked " What are you trying to say - are you suggesting I had anything to do with the damage to the panels !" ?

She replied " You tell me. " I then told her that it was the gales a couple of nights ago - all that I did was to return them after they had been blown into my garden.

My neighbour said " Yes, I know it was the wind - it woke me at 3.30 and I saw the fence blown over. " This statement did nothing to resolve my mind.
I asked her " So why are you saying that 'somebody' damaged the fence - I hope that you're not suggesting it was me by what you're NOT saying. "

She replied " What do you think ? - I'll get you next time " !!! I very, very politely said " Goodbye " and walked away.
    .............answers on a postcard please.

Good to see them get a hard time...or are they...me thinks not...

The reality they will not talk about...take a payday loan...by payday you will have to pay it back...yeah we know that but now the stark choice...feed your family or give your wages to the pay day lender. Oh wait but their is another choice...take out another loan with another provider to pay of your previous loan...then the vicious cycle has commenced. Whatever happens just do not default...otherwise the gates of hell to the percentage calculator will open. This story only just begins...credit cards are no innocent party...easy to use for gambling...now we are building a fatal cocktail to ruin in an attempt to clear the debt.

These pay day lenders are getting off to light in questions...about time those that can afford to sit in that room...make way for questions from those that cannot. credit checks...oh please don't make me laugh...there only go to start bouncing once you have already ruined that person.

What's the solution I don't know...but i could do no worse than wealthy people sitting round a table thinking they know.

brb a problem in our society is that there is pressure on everyone to have everything immediately. But not everyone has the income stream to be able to afford instant gratification - But nobody is willing to wait for lifes luxuries.

The problem probably goes further - inasmuch that people will 'max' their credit cards - without any idea as to repayment - their philosophy is that all is ok as long as they can pay the minimum monthly amount. And of course as soon as they reach the maximum on one credit card, they start on another one - etc !

I have no problem with credit cards or, indeed credit per se - but - there has to be discipline. There has to be a realistic chance of repayment of the capital sum, otherwise it can only be a recipe for financial disaster ( eventually ) - that is why the country is in a financial mess.

There may be some people out there who will tell me that they struggle to pay to put food on the table - really ? - I would defy any of these claimants to deny that there isn't an item of 'luxury' that could be foregone in order to prioritise their finances - I'm not being unkind - just expressing an opinion. So-called poverty need not exist in this land - where everybody and his dog from all over the world can't wait to get into - to avail themselves of my tax money.

As a child we didn't have a lot of the things people take for granted nowadays, car, TV, fridge, washing machine, central heating, I never thought of us as being poor at the time but peoples expectations have changed. How can anyone now appear on TV bemoaning their lot when you can see the car on the drive, the large flat screen and sky box, the computer, people expect all these things now even if they're on benefits. The days of carrot cake and scrag end stew are long past.
