I see the met have now apologised to those protesters, which is a bit late. Heard these protesters spoke to police weeks before event and were told they can go ahead so someone didn't get the memo

And it's going to cost us taxpaters huge amount in compensation.... Whether anyone agrees with the 'Not my King' people, is irrelevant. ..They actually had prior dialogue of their intentions - but - because it would have detracted from the 'spectacle', the Police abused their authority --- but -- when it comes to using the same 'authority' with protestors who cause real problems, the Police do bugger all......

...... whilst I might be stretching a point a bit far - isn't the behaviour of the Police, in this circumstance, not a lot different ( in principle), with what the likes of Putin does to his dissenters...... it's the start of a slippery slope!

My 'flabber' hasn't been this 'ghasted' for a long time !........... and I'm probably going to be breaking all sorts of Wok crap - but -at least I'm not the thickest person in the World !

I am currently watching The Wheel on BBC 1 (( first time - probably the last ! )).... The 'celebrity' experts had to provide a correct answer to increase the prize fund...... They were asked for months of the year with 31 days...

Alison Hammond ( apparently from Daytime television -- (( I wouldn't know )) ), said '' April.''.....all the other 'experts' nearly wet themselves with laughter - as the idiot tried to bury her head in her hands....

Now- you might think that she had made a genuine mistake - a-la-pressed the wrong button - but - NO..... She then emphasised just how thick she was / is, by saying '' I was going to say March - is that right ?'' -- said in such a way that she obviously hasn't got a clue.

Apparently, brb thinks VAR is an ass !
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...1-000-not-revealing-driving-speeding-car.html

So - Gallagher can't drive . The 6 points n his licence is...pointless! The fine is not even 'loose change.'...And it appears to me that he has 'licence' to employ a chauffer who can drive for him - and activate every speed camera on every journey - and absolutely NOTHING can be done to prevent it, or punish the 'driver.'

It's easy resolved. As well as the fine, stick him in a cell for a while, then give him another fine on top of the original to the cost of entire his stay, along with any other expenditure that comes out the public purse.

At least she locked the car !!!!
Most people in my road do as I do - park their car inside their garage... although that does rely on drivers NOT blocking your driveway....... which is exactly what happened to me earlier today.

A visitor (( to a neighbour opposite me )), using an open-top Mazda car (( with the top 'down' )) stopped her car directly in front of my driveway -- despite the fact that the double length driveway of my neighbour was 'vacant', and that there were no other cars parked in the road for some distance..
The Mazda driver could have parked on their hosts driveway - or - in front of it - or in the free space on the roadway adjacent to the host driveway - but - NO - the idiot dumped the car blocking my drive.

At this point I felt it necessary to offer my advice..... administered by verbal 'encouragement through my open window... The driver clearly was confused - and inched forward (( I did say inch - NOT inches. )) I shouted more words of wisdom - which finally got through... The driver then drove to the end of the road (( I am near the end of a cul-de-sac )) - turned and drove back --- to again block my driveway......
By now, my 'encouragement' was becoming louder and more 'Anglo-Saxon' in language....
The driver then moved forward - all of 15 feet, and proceeded to wave her hand........ not for my benefit - but to attract the attention of my neighbour - who came out of her house.

The Mazda driver beckoned over my neighbour - spoke briefly - then got out of her car and walked towards my neighbour's house - not before 'blipping' her car key - to 'lock' the car (what was the point - the top was still 'down.' )

Hopefully the incident has helped him to learn to grow up, along with respecting property that is not his. Afterall, how would he feel if we scratch on his watch or wrote on his shirt, annoyed and angry I expect, oh well lesson learned. In the day of digital technology the stakes of embarrassment are considerably higher.

It's Monday morning - a great time to have a 'moan!'........ not that any particular day of the week has ever stopped me.
In recent years, I have scarcely chosen to watch any Wimbledon... but in the last week I have 'accidentally' caught the very tail end of some transmission' (( as I tune in to watch the NEXT program. ))

I have seen two or three post-match interviews with the players.... and, what I have noticed irritates me (( as a BBC licence fee payer.)).. On the desk, in front of these sportspeople, there has ALWAYS been two containers of bottled water - placed ever-so-precisely - so that the brand label faces the camera..... and none of the interviewees have taken a sip (( obviously under contract to not disturb the product placement. ))

This nonsense is nothing other than advertising of the brand in question ---- and is NOT ethical! .... If the brand is paying the BBC, then, it follows that the BBC should allow routine advertising - and scrap the fee........ Perhaps we'll then get some decent programmes instead of the absolute drivel it serves.....If the BBC isn't getting paid by the 'brand', it should not permit those products to have huge amount of free publicity..... The 'double-standards' is a joke - and insult to people - especially pensioners, who have to pay for all this free advertising.................

........ perhaps the BBC could get rid of some of its' expensive presenters - who can hardly say that their pay is 'pants' judging by recent revelations... and there are the ones who want to be politicians - you know- the Gary Linekers of the World... He's definitely sitting on a fortune with his tv work.....

.......... anyway - anyone for Pimms ? (( or tap water if you can afford it. ))

It's what I call product placement, you might (or might not) remember a particular incident with Christian Ronaldo during an interview, probably World Cup or European Championships, something like that - where he took a brand drink off the interview desk, and says 'drink water' :cheesy:

Which was funny, and even more so knowing the BBC are product placing 'water.'

However, there was repercussions in that the advertiser had paid for the rights for the branded drink to be there, and I guess Ronaldo probably got a bit of a reprimand.

Anyway, back to the BBC... I guess you remember the days of Robertsons during Wimbledon, sorry I've not looked any of this up, so sorry if I've got the brand wrong (I'm thinking Barley water for some reason) - anyway, I thought Wimbledon considered it wasn't appropriate advertising these days ie in the sense of sporting health benefits.

Hence as you say, they are now advertising a brand of water, not sure how I feel about that, particularly as it's an expensive brand as well. But you have a valid point, if advertising is considered ok in that situation, then surely they should adopt advertising as a whole.

Although I hasten to add the stance of another TV broadcaster, SKY, they take your subscription AND advertise! Now that really is taking the P....the only difference being, we have a choice! Whereas with the BBC, we have no choice, unless you want to jump through hoops to avoid paying.

I don't really want to be negative.....
    https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/2023/july/joe-comper-update/

At the end of the 'update', the subject of season tickets was raised - with no 'constructive update (( as it concerns me.))
I was hoping for some information regarding the despatch of ST 'cards.' - NOTHING!.... I sincerely hope that we'll get them in good time for the first home game - but - judging by past experience, I'm not holding my breath --- just don't get stuck behind me in the queue at the turnstile !

What I fail to understand is that GFC knew it would be in L2 at the end of April... GFC then were quite happy to take hundreds of £££ from me (( I bought 3 season tickets. ))) .... There was NO reason why the ST cards could not have been made in early May, and sent to fans... The cards are 'loaded' with 23 'credits' , one for each home game. The 'credit' doesn't relate to a specific match or opponent - so- can be used for ANY league game... So - why do we have to wait months for an expensive piece of plastic ?

The C word !....it certainly is crackers!
I haven't yet had my summer holiday... It's not even (proper) football season - yet, as I watch a bit of television, there was an advert for pre-lit Christmas trees! - in bloody July !....... and whose going to be able to afford a single carrot for Santa's reindeer ?. The next commercial was an appeal to donate to a foodbank - because many more people can't afford to buy their usual food each week.

She made the mistake of thinking that I'd be 'helpful '!

Today, I was in town and parked my car - just after zig-zag lines of a pedestrian crossing.... I wasn't expecting what happened next... A woman (( I think ! )), then parked in front of me - fully on the zig-zag lines... The driver got out of her car at the same time as me.. I pointed out that she might get a 'ticket' (+ endorsement), if she left her car in position.... Her reply was priceless...

She saw that there was a (big) gap between two cars, just a few feet further along the road ( the gap was behind the car behind mine. )
The woman 'driver' then said '' If you move your car back into that space, I can move into the space where you've parked !...

I was almost speechless ( for a second ).. I said to her (( the bleeding obvious )) ''Why can't YOU move into the free space. I've parked here before you arrived - for my benefit, and not to save the space for anyone else.''... The driver then made herself look even more stupid - and said '' I can't reverse very well - especially when I have to do parallel parking.''.... I told her ''If you can't reverse, you shouldn't be driving.'' She continued to spout stupidity, saying '' It's not driving - it's parking.''..... I then couldn't resist a bit of silliness and said '' If I move my car, are you going to perform a 'turn' in the road, just so that you won't have to reverse a few feet.''... She replied ''Well, if you won't move, will you stop the traffic so that I can get into that space?........ Was I on Candid Camera ?............ I told her; ''You're joking - what, risk getting mowed down, while you struggle to park - or should I say 'drive' - and when you bang into the other parked cars, it'll be my fault ! I suggest your next journey is by bus.''

    ((( see - I can be helpful )))

One less thing about which to worry !
brb will smile - but - I have been denied an opportunity to cause more grief than the bloody idiots in orange !
Today, I received my season tickets - and it's not even August yet!
I was almost hoping that, like in previous years - when Scally was in charge, I would be waiting for the ticket AFTER the season had started - I would have caused chaos at the turnstile....... can't wait for kick off.

I meant to post a few days ago but forgot, I saw someone on twitter had received their ST, so instantly thought of you and was going to give you the nod they are on there way now. I think you made the correct decision keeping your season ticket, because IF Gills do well, and with half the away stand out of bounds (unless it's been sorted now), it could be an unusual scramble for tickets, for the sake of Brad alone and the money he has invested, I hope it all comes to fruit.

And I was so looking forward to the new season........
I have got to make a comment on what I've just seen - and it makes me sick !
The new Gills official team photo is on the Official website... I refuse to contaminate this thread with a link !
Why is that man in the position usually reserved for the 'owner' of a Club ?.... I thought that man was now only a minor shareholder - and not prominent enough to be sitting at the top table.....
It just shows how arrogant he remains - if he thinks that he can shove aside Galinson - without whom, Priestfield would now be housing.

ps - for brb (( who is in 'fishing' mood )) - I'm not interested in listening to any claim that the man saved GFC in mid 90s...... we've done the cashcow / Dubai lifestyle etc etc argument.

I would never offer an excuse for Scally, the topic is too emotive.

If looks could kill - I'd be dead !
It is a very long time since I was last able to suffer any fool with even a gram of ' gladness.' - and today's fool didn't persuade me to mellow !

I was coming out of a store - carrying a cumbersome, bulky box ( flat-pack ) - which was more an awkward shape than heavy - but - it was large, and should have been 'obvious' to all that it wasn't an easy shape to carry...... but this didn't deter a woman and her daughter ( about 10years ), from being 'blind.'
As I reached the threshold of the exit door, the woman and child were approaching the door - to enter the shop... I was a couple of steps closer to the door - and felt I had 'priority' to exit the door ahead of mother & child...

Now - I know the woman saw me at the door - so I was a little surprised that she didn't at least instruct the little girl (( walking astride of the older woman )< to step in front ( or behind ) - to enter the shop in single file.....NO - they carried on walking abreast of each other.... [[ just to clarify - the shop entrance was not sufficiently wide for 3 people to pass abreast of each other ]] -- and there was no way that I could suddenly dissolve into the side wall............ And what was worse was that the two females then simultaneously looked down at their respective mobile phones as they carried on forward...

By now I was stopped in my tracks - half struggling to hold my package.... I was helpless to what happened next...Thew woman (head down - looking at phone), bumped into the box I was carrying... it wasn't a heavy contact - but enough to send her sideways into the little girl - who was knocked to the ground - with her phone going flying (( the crack on landing didn't sound good. ))..... thankfully nobody was actually hurt...

..... instinctively I said '' Oh, I am sorry.''... but - then I realised that the 'collision' was not my fault.. I was stood 'still' at the point of impact - which occurred because the woman wasn't looking where she was going....... So - I quickly added '' that you bumped into me.''

The look on the woman's face was priceless - it was quite 'thunderous.'...but she made no comment.............. I am buggered if I am going to concede if events are not my fault.

There are so many people going around 'glued' to their mobile phones - it's a wonder more are not injured - or worse (( would it be unkind to suggest that it would help to cull the fools in this World ? ))

I had to ask if Scally was still in charge !
Firstly - credit to the team for a very entertaining and good performance... I like the look of the Crawley forward line - and it was great to see two proper fullbacks... Gills certainly deserved to win by a bigger margin...we'll probably score more from a less convincing performance... but I'll be happy with 46 similar games this season.....

..... now for the moan (( and apparently, the look on my face - as my jaw dropped, was priceless. ))

I decided to wait until today to (( try )) to collect my new replica shirt... I had seen on the Club's Official website that the collection point would be open up to 3pm on matchday...
....I arrived at 2.15pm, and went to gate L - but the gate wasn't open for access to the collection desk (( which I could see was manned/ womaned - or whatever description of person you want. ...I made an enquiry of a steward standing outside the gate.... She told me '' The collection desk is closed today!..............................this was when my jaw dropped - much to the amusement of my two sons - who were becoming increasingly incontinent with laughter as I struggled for words...

Eventually I recovered my power of speech...I had to ask ''What - on a matchday -- surely today would be the obvious day for it to be open ? Who is the idiot that thought it was a good idea to have it closed for fans coming for the match - some like me have a 100 mile journey..Is Scally still in charge ?.......................... The steward just shrugged her shoulders and gave an embarrassed grin.

and, of course, when I finally get my shirt it's bound to be the wrong size !
