brb - I am so pleased that you found something at which to laugh....
The situation is actually worse than I reported -- because the 'long-suffering' GFC fans - to which I eluded, are MANY season ticket holders....
All the 'plebs' in the BMS have bought discounted tickets (( and several would have been free !))... These fans have been given the luxury of no queues and easy service -- whereas the STH ( and others ), in the GRS had to queue for hours just for the loo, - and had absolutely no chance of obtaining refreshments.... Scally calls himself a businessman - now you're making me laugh.

Well the good news is, that I paid £10.....£5 cheaper than everyone else, and was allowed to choose my own seat, I could even make myself a nice cuppa at half-time...with no queue. You are right about technology, it's wonderful, we should use it........... for Ifollow. <laugh>

Damn - Walsall have nicked a potential investor for Gills
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-61248516

Perhaps we can persuade this entrepreneur
    https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/18215164/britains-cheapest-shop-everything-pennies/

....... as you can see, my testicles have not been harmed for too much exposure to the sun.....unlike when they get squeezed for more money for my new season ticket..... If Mr. Scally prices tickets '' sensibly'', he'll get the same level of uptake as the Fleetwood game -- but he has got to learn how to provide the entertainment and facilities to maximise the commercial opportunity - being able to get some refreshments (( without a mile long queue )), would be a good start.

I might have to start walking to Priestfield
I note that the price of oil has dropped a fair bit over the last month - (( that is - only in the World's markets.)) - However, in the last few days, I note that my local Tesco Extra has increased their prices by another 5 pence a litre ! WHY?
I know it may not seem a lot of money - it's only 5 pence ----BUT - it isn't just 5 pence -- I have lost count of how many times the cost of fuel for my car has risen in the last year or so ----- and don't forget - the actual cost was supposed to have reduced by 5 pence a litre, following the Chancellor's Spring statement. (( I defy anyone to claim that this actually happened ))...... and when you have to travel 100 miles just for a Home game, that's a lot of litres !!!
..... if things get really bad I won't even be able to afford to drive to the 20pence Shop !

What do you reckon brb - is it because we're obsessed with going cashless ??

Am I being paranoid ? I have noticed that ever since society has been doing its' best to refuse to take cash payments ( You'll catch the Plague don't you know ! ) - prices, everywhere are just spiralling.....Do people notice?, worry? care?

How are we expected to pay for all the increases, when wage rises ( what's THAT? ), are at a substantially lower rate ( if ANY )??
Or are we expected to just go further into debt - and not even worry about the debt...... It's only a number (( a bit like another 5 pence on a litre of petrol/diesel ).........certainly the Government don't seem to care about the money they spend - sorry I meant to say '' waste''...... Apart from Mr Musk, does anyone know what £2.5 Trillion looks like?

what an absolute economic mess we're in !! - still -- it doesn't seem to dissuade the thousands of economic migrants that keep flooding the UK. It won't be long before I can't afford to live in the UK -I might seek asylum in Rwanda........

....... and it's no good asking your MP for answers - they all seem to be busy going to parties and watching porn (( when in Parliament - you know - where they're supposed to be addressing important political matters of State. )).........
....... ''Roll up. Roll up - the Boris Circus is in town - and as an added attraction, there is 'PEEP' show (( Not so much what the Butler saw - more what the pervy MP leered over. ))

As you know mate, I've always been against society going cashless, albeit I don't have a problem with cashless payments as such when people choose, but it has to be a choice and must always be a choice, even though we know it will not be.

Once society has gone totally cashless, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the UK as one of the first to so, you will put total control in the hands of the banks, thus in turn the government.

You need look no further than here for proof, imagine this happens in a cashless society, regardless of reason for protest: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-60383385

Let's not stop there, because you will also be giving banks the thumbs up, to charge you for looking after your money, as they all come under the same umbrella of financial institutions, and how would we the mere people protest against such charges, pay in cash...oh no, we let that monetary form of payment go.

You think they will stop at all of the above, nope, here's another example of going cashless... https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/asda-morrisons-sainsburys-tesco-99-23302799 - this is the early warning signs of what happens when you give them the power and this is only the start, we haven't even gone cashless yet.

Imagine everything you do in life leaving a digital foot print of your life, through every payment you make, even the Dartford Tolls are cashless now, and record date, time, vehicle reg, of whether you were going North or South.

Most will say if you've got nothing to hide it's not a problem. Sorry but it is a problem, I was born in a world without digital controls, afterall how has it improved my safety and security in the 21st century more than what it was all those decades ago, it hasn't. The world is not a safer place, some might argue it's a less safer world.

In regards to the government, we've all seen the behaviour of the governing powers and the opposition, do you really want to enhance their controls, covid has merely enhanced our sleep walk into a tolalitarian society, and the financial institutions are rubbing their hands in glee.

You know something is wrong with the system, when our own Chairman supports going totally cashless, without our consultation....ask yourself why?

brb - thank you for your thoughts (( many of which I share. ))
    Re your point about cashless making society safer -- I suspect that's meant to refer to being less likely to be mugged in the street - if all we've got are credit and debit cards!......... and cyber crime is less of a risk, and more lucrative for criminals --- the problem there is;

all the hassle with banks and card providers as you try to recover your losses (( although the cards' protocols are designed to facilitate this event without personal loss of funds --- that's the 'ideal' World. )).....

On a personal note, I don't mind cashless payments - although it would be nice to have a choice to use a bit of actual cash - rather than to use plastic for every transaction - some of which are not even £1 ( for example a postage stamp ) - - and what about the 'tramp' in the street - are they expected to get a card reader ? (( perhaps they can take a cheque ! ))

My main concern, in my previous post, was the alarming rate at which prices are rising - and my suspicion that nobody seems to care about mounting debt -- because we're putting it all on plastic.... and it was the introduction of the Barclaycard, a few decades ago, that has been responsible for people just spending - without (( in a lot of cases )), considering the consequences........ We (( being led by a profligate Government )), are just letting the debt pile up - with little, or no thought (( or even care )), about hoping to repay the principle debt -- we appear to be living just to 'service' the interest............well - how much longer before that becomes impossible for us ?

Some price rises are downright criminal -- take energy prices....whilst I can (almost) accept that the wholesale cost of gas or electricity has risen - especially during the Ukraine conflict - what I find outrageous is the obscene rise in the standing 'charge' - How is this justified ? - especially as all you hear, when you try to contact your energy supplier, is that their staff are working from home... The rise in standing charges is nothing short of daylight robbery - but the Government won't do a damned thing - they're just raking in more VAT - to waste !

As for the (latest )5 pence a litre increase - what can we do ? - not a lot... again, the Government will be happy to take the tax.

I don't want to keep piling debt onto a piece of plastic - and not knowing, or caring about paying off my debts...I would like businesses to be reasonable with their prices (( you just never see them lower than inflation - let alone lower than wage rises ))............

    .....................As a Gills fan, I daren't ask for 'value-for-money' !

Two 'wrongs' don't make one 'right'!.................... they make TWO 'wrongs'!
Congratulations to Nottingham Forest - for reaching the Championship play-off final.... I have watched them quite a few times during the season - and have enjoyed their brand of play -- and particularly impressed with Johnson and Spence.

I am less than impressed with the moronic thug - who decided to attack Sheffield United's Billy Sharp during the ( now customary ) pitch invasion at the end of the game... As I understand, Sharp needed stitches for the wounds he received from the mindless idiot.... I wouldn't ask ''why'' - because there is no room for this type of behaviour in society, let alone football.

Both Clubs are right to condemn the actions of a clot. Nottingham Forest have apologised for the behaviour of one of their fans - and that was the right thing to do......

Sheffield United's manager, Paul Heckingbottom (rightly) criticised the thug - and said that people don't expect to come to their place of work and get assaulted.....WHAT A HYPOCRITE ! . If you had watched the match, you'll probably know what I mean.

At one point in the game ( when Sheffield were losing, ) Heckingbottom picked up the ball - which had gone off for a Forest throw-in. He then proceeded to thrust the ball at Forest's Djed Spence - who was standing only a couple of feet away. There was no doubt that the force that Heckingbottom used was intended to cause some harm to Spence....... It was little wonder at the reaction from both sets of players - with everyone abandoning the game - to engage in a mass brawl... Caused by the actions of a thug !

When 'normal' play resumed, Djed Spence was subject to much illegal 'physicality' from the Sheffield players - particularly from Fleck... I almost had some sympathy for Sheffield losing the first leg - when they conceded two goals following unfortunate 'slip-ups' on the grass (including by John Egan ) - but after the treatment they dished out to Spence, I couldn't help but laugh at the awful dog-dinner of their penalties after extra time.

Heckingbottom only got a yellow card on the night.... I don't expect him to escape further punishment...... I hope that Nottinghamshire police are able to identify the offender who attacked Billy Sharp - and put the idiot behind bars.

As for Heckingbottom - I hope the irony of his condemnation of the fan is not lost on him - because I don't expect that either Billy Sharp - or Djed Spence expected to go to their place of work and end up being assaulted.

I know it's 'wrong' - but you can't help smiling.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-61481313

I am quite capable of using expletives ( a-la-poshfan ) - but would hope to express myself more eloquently!....I don't particularly bother with films that have gratuitous violence, sex or swearing --- this usually indicates a poor story line.......... However, one particular film 'See no evil, hear no evil' ( a comedy ), would definitely be poorer for the lack of the (little) very bad language at the beginning of the film... The swearing added to the humour of the incidents - which would not have been quite as funny without the bad language... and, I was pleased that the language toned down after the opening of the film.

Sometimes ( in my opinion ), bad language is the only thing that can demonstrate deep emotions - or, in the case of the above link, to describe the warmth and laughter that Huw Davies brought to the lives of those who knew him.

I know it might be wrong to use the F word - but I believe that the plaque was intended to make people smile and laugh with Mr. Davies ( rather than at him. ) I don't think that by suggesting that Mr. Davies quietly told the seagulls to ''Go away'' would have been a fitting tribute....................................
.............. maybe poshfan is more 'emotive' than I suspect.

Is it right to discriminate against so-called discrimination?
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61492696

The player, Gueye, is accused of refusing to play because he didn't wish to show public support for 'Gay' footballers... His club said the player was ill and had personal reasons for withdrawing from the game in question (( where rainbow-coloured numbers were displayed on the shirts. ))

Guyee has tried to defend himself - and is keen that people respect the belief of his religious faith - and ( quite rightly ), suggests that his religious belief should also be protected from any discrimination......... So - it would seem that Gueye is in a no-win situation.... He has chosen to be true to his religious beliefs - and reluctantly withdrew from the game that was designed to support the Gay 'movement.' ( which - it is assumed, he doesn't support. )

I have sympathy for Gueye.... He hasn't been accused of any 'open' discrimination against anyone of a homosexual disposition.... Nobody has said that he is anti-gay.. He has chosen to exercise his democratic right - to not show active support.... What's wrong with that ?? Why should he be forced to participate in activity that might make others think that he is in 'favour' of a preferred behaviour of others.....It may well be that Gueye has no personal 'agenda' against anyone's personal preferences - and conceivably ''loves his neighbour'' - but doesn't love what he may perceive as ''the sin of his neighbour''

I am sure that everyone of us has personal opinions about the next person ( and vice versa .) We should all try to show due respect to others - but I'm not sure that it is right to accuse me / you / Gueye of any form of 'hate crime' just because we choose not to participate in a public display of support for one particular section of society....... you never know what discrimination you may be showing against me if you make a malicious claim.

    My view...

MP Tracy Crouch who leads the review into football, once made a quote about the importance of football to the community, and how it had to be protected, because it cannot be like any other business that is just allowed to go under, because of the impact on that commmunity. Sorry but can't find the actual quote.

My point being if we believe football really is part of the community, then surely you have to embrace everything within it?

All companies and businesses in the world have mission statements and certain company values, if you don't agree with the principles of that company, if your own morals and beliefs, don't allow you to commit to the company goals, then you are free to leave at anytime.

People are as homophobic as they are racist, neither problem has gone away, we just kids ourselves that it has.

Then people want to kid themselves and say it's not a problem, it is, just recently I was shocked to find that the Blackpool football player was the first actively professional to come out since Justin Fashanu, that tells you there is a problem.

Quote from wiki when Justin came out in 1990, the wording of it alone says it all...

The Sun dragged out the tale with titillating stories of sexual encounters with unnamed MPs, football players and pop stars, which, he claims, were largely untrue. The revelations, nevertheless, earned him a considerable sum of money but he says he was offered even more by others who wanted him to stay in the closet. He admits that he wasn't fully prepared for the backlash that followed and his career in football ... has suffered "heavy damage". Although he's fully fit, no club has offered him a full-time contract since the story first appeared.

    Btw RIP <peacedove>

So Mr Gueye if you have a problem with a rainbow, then you should go find another club that is happy to massage your prejudice.

Below is a link to a case I read about some months back, it made me feel sick what happened to the doctor...

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...diff-doctor-gary-jenkins-in-homophobic-attack

    Quote:
'The three “tortured” Dr Gary Jenkins by kicking and punching him and stamping on his head for up to 30 minutes as he begged them to stop.'

    But rainbows or something!

    All on the pitch !

The ' pitch invasion' at Priestfield at the Rotherham game hasn't been the only one this year...... It has become a 'tradition', in recent years - where supporters, on the final home game of a season ( regardless of what is at stake on the result ), seem intent on running onto the pitch - to 'celebrate' with their favourite players......... And, to a degree, that isn't the end of the World EXCEPT --

EXCEPT some fans cannot control themselves.... I say '' fans'' - but you know that I mean thugs! ...

Why has it become 'necessary' to use the pitch invasion as an opportunity for a 'free hit' at the players - regardless of what you think of their ability ? ..I realise that it is my question which shouldn't be 'necessary' --- I also realise that the main reason has three components: BRITISH / FOOTBALL/ YOBS
(I realise that this also applies to football yobs from other countries -- just in case I may be accused of some sort of discrimination. )

FOOTBALL appears to be the common denominator. Ethnicity is almost irrelevant - and I wish that were the case for yobs, wherever in the World.

The 'tradition' of the pitch invasion has to be stopped - or discouraged.. It is becoming more frequent ( several times at Priestfield last season. )The 'tradition', now seems to be more focussed on the violence that can be achieved. This 'tradition' is certainly unacceptable.

So - what do we do about it ?
I despair that common sense might prevail - so I won't expect any self-restraint any time soon...... As for deterrent ( by way of punishment ) - 'deterrent' !!! don't make me laugh.... only a few days ago, a thug (in Bristol ) managed to convince 12 idiots on a jury that he was acting in self defence when he 'took' a baton from a police officer (trying to calm a riot ), and then attacked the officer and smashed his riot shield........of course all of this happened in a very peaceful and civilised manner -NOT !!!!!! - So I won't expect any 'traditional' British justice.

I don't see any answer that will please too many -because - the answer ( my suggestion ), is that Football grounds may have to be compelled to erect fences that makes a pitch invasion physically impossible.... I don't like the prospect of railings and barbed wire interfering with my view of hoofball - but - I don't see how the FA will stop at shutting grounds ( on match day ) to punish the only people who always seem to be the only ones who suffer - real football fans - who are not yobs.

    brb - re the 'discrimination' post I made ( No. 2071 )
I can ( have to respect ), accept your ' view '..... that is the whole point of this forum!..... And to an extent, I can agree with your sentiments - but ( you know it wouldn't be me if I didn't argue )...... I can also disagree with you on several levels.

I have stated that people should receive due respect from society (( unless they're a football yob )).... I said 'yob' - not the mischievous antic we used to perform.....

It would appear that in the new WOKE world in which we live - respect incorporates every individual preferences - including the right for people to be classified as anything but MR / MRS / MISS / MS !!

You may have a valid argument that the player, Gueye should have respected the wish of his employer ( who pays his wages etc ) - to wear the rainbow numbers on his shirt........ BUT - are you missing the point that ALL forms of discrimination is no longer acceptable... Football seems very keen to express this viewpoint (( I'm bending my knee as I type. ))... Mr. Gueye may be wrong to not respect the wishes of his employer - but (( like I said, he is in a no-win situation )) - isn't the employer expected to show respect for the religious belief of their employee ?? - and it won't do your argument much to know that if Mr. Gueye's employer was to take action , they might be heading for the High Court, to defend a case of discrimination..... (( Mark McCammon ))

I suppose my point of view is that we are supposed to be a tolerant country. I can only speak how I see things from the UK perspective, not the relevant country a player maybe from.

Maybe if Mr. Gueye wishes to respect the strict laws of Senegal, he should restrict his playing to there, there is no room for intolerance here nor in France (PSG).

I look forward to his High Court challenge.

Oh btw don't get me started on the transgender stuff, that's a whole new ball game, one that I feel has done more harm to the LGBT Community than I have to time to write war and peace on. Maybe I should move to Senegal to. <laugh>

Auf Wiedersehen ( I'm not allowed to say ''Pet'' )..... Now then you darlings, have a read of this...
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...arged-calling-two-teenage-waitresses-pet.html

I'd like to think that there is much more to this story..... Surely it can't be that two darling snowflakes can consider a generations-used term of affectionate endearment, is now not only an insult - but threatening ??....(( please don't tell me to stop calling the girls 'Surely.' ))

Even by the ridiculous 'Woke' standards that exist in our society, there has to be something sinister behind this story. .... Surely McCrory didn't just say something like '' Get us another round of drinks please Pet ?''

I sincerely hope that the court case will reveal something tangible behind the accusations - which the Crown Prosecution Service deemed fit to authorise a trial ........... unless, of course, the CPS are just a bunch of 'Erics' - (( unless you've seen the series, you won't know what I mean - and neither did the Germans ! ))

The 'Early Bird' nearly got well and truly stuffed!
I have just sorted out two season tickets for next season.... I did it over the phone - with little fuss - but I did avoid a bit of stress !!!

I phoned the Club - to enquire if they had received my applications - which I sent over two weeks ago.. My credit card has not been debited. I usually renew 'online', but, as one of the applications was for a new ticket (( of a 'lapsed' season ticket for one of my sons )) - and the Club had asked for a photo etc -- so I sent two application forms..... (( I would have done these 'online' - but there was an issue with the photos - which is best if I don't explain -- probably more ridiculous as when I had a picture of a camel in my season ticket wallet.))

By a strange coincidence, the Club claimed that they have not received my applications!!! They offered to process the applications over the phone - without the need for photos for my son !.......

....... so - I parted with with a lot of money ( 2x adult prices ) - but - at least I managed to get them for the bargain Early Bird prices....... What do you reckon for my chances of the 'discounted' amounts if I phoned on Wednesday ?? - actually, If I waited until Wednesday (1st June), I could have saved myself a huge amount of money - because if the Club had dared to say that I was too late for the Early Bird price, I would have told them exactly where to shove my proposed application.
