Shocker from Hart. Not sure that Stoke in any way deserve it, but if you don't concede, you'll always have a chance at the other end. Helps to repeat our 2005 effort of finishing bottom.
I haven't yet come across a single person who has suggested that a total of under 35 could keep a team up. 35 points (backed up by a solid-ish GD; basically something better than what Huddersfield and Stoke have) seems to be the lowest potential line. But possibly 36, 37, 38. Well if Stoke lose at Anfield, this draw means they'd now need to win all three of their other matches in order to get to (or exceed) that minimum potential survival threshold. Basically, we've almost certainly just seen a second team go down.
The way Saints and Stoke are playing at the moment 30 points might be enough to keep a team up. Yes, I know Swansea in 17th already have 33 points.
Yep, had the same thought yesterday driving home when pondering our position. What a FU! Still not dead yet - COYS
Speaking to a couple of mates yesterday who are fans of other clubs. They think we’ll still get out of this.
I can't see us escaping, I'm more hopeful now than what i was a few weeks ago which is a little strange as we have picked up zero points in that time. Hughes has with out doubt got us playing better but i just think our defensive frailties will cost us in the end.
With a gap appearing (so one win doesn't get you out of it) Leicester is the decider for me as it keeps us vaguely in touch. Lose that and staying up becomes too hard as we have to win games and have another club go on a nose dive. Being completely honest, our chances of staying up are below 50%....lose on Thursday and there is little chance of doing it.
P.s. Whatever happens I hope we give good performances....the fans deserve to see some gutsy play. If our performance level improves I hope we keep Hughes as he could be what we need in the Championship....if he even wants to stay. We have to keep even that level of continuity....not another manager for heaven's sake.
I'm reverting to the position of not watching the game and going into hibernation for 95 mins. That saw us through 2 promotions, so it may work. I think our chances of survival are about 20%. lose on Thursday and about 5%
That is the great system I am using....I used to keep checking during the game, but that is the road to madness. I went out on Saturday, came back and saw we lost 3-2....sad, but pleased that we'd made a fight of it. I completely avoided the total despair and rending of clothes that most fans went through. I have half-accepted relegation (been there, done it and survived). Strangely, I keep feeling for Markus....daft I know, but I feel he has been failed.
I really, really hope your right, and with the rumour of Puel having unrest in the dressing room we have to go for it straight from KO and play Austin from the start.
I'd be more hopeful of that if we were just a point or two behind....but we are asking for the perfect storm....and a turn of luck (which has completely deserted us this year...apart from the FA Cup and that often presages relegation ). I've been avoiding this forum to avoid being depressed....perhaps I should avoid it to stop depressing all of you <------ a laugh in case you've forgotten what it is.
I have a feeling we will start with Long and Carrillo on Thursday.....hopefully we won't need Charlie's goals and indeed save him for Sunday.
