40 points would be a certainty to stay up (probably), so is a good target, but I think it will be fewer than that....38? For us that would mean 3 wins and a couple of draws from 10 games. Due to our GD advantage, Cardiff needs one more win than us (or 3 more draws). All ifs and buts, but we hold the advantage, so ours to throw away,
Yeah. Those last two games for Cardiff should have ended any chance of them getting 38 points+. I've given them four points from their two games today and next weekend (Wolves and West Ham), and yet still they only reach 35. I still think Brighton have every chance of hitting more than 38 points (starting with a win today, as they should). But that's irrelevant if Cardiff don't get there too.
If Huddersfield get something from today, that would be the most damaging result at the most crucial time. Go Terriers!
13th April is the date after which I can see Burnley picking up no more points. That day they play Cardiff - if there's a loser that day they're the team for us to make sure we're ahead of I'd say
Sorry posted this on the PL thread, but what does everyone think of their prognosis. ?? https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...iff-city-southamptons-relegation-run-15916601
Are we going to have one minute silences for Sol Bamba's knee for the rest of the season? They've made it sound so bad, I imagine he'll be back for the next game.
Just come off the phone from an old mate (as in known the bugger for 50+ years) who is an ST holder at Wolves. Bizarrely he says that Huddersfield are the best team he has seen at Wolves this season - but clearly only save themselves for Wolves - and Cardiff were "absolutely ****ing awful" and reckons that we're safe. But then this is the same mate who told me that we'd win the FA Cup in 2003 and the League Cup in 2017. So a man who knows a thing or bugger all.
Today is massive for Cardiff. Even though both of us still have nine games left, I would suggest that there is a strong argument for saying that this is the final round of matches where Cardiff have the significantly easier fixture. For the remaining eight rounds, it's either us with the significantly easier fixture, or the level of fixture difficulty is roughly the same. Added to that, four of our final eight are at home - whereas Cardiff only have three of their last eight at home (and that then drops to two of their last seven, once they have played Chelsea in the their next game). Today is huge for Cardiff. They desperately need to be ahead of us at 5pm this evening.
Oh if only logic applied! I agree with you, but look at our recent record. We started a run of 6 games with a draw at Chelsea, a win at Leicester and a rare home win against Everton (I know we have a good record against them. My point here is any win at home is a rare event!). Wow, next 3 games against Burnley, Palace and Cardiff and we could start looking up not down.... We've been here too often to apply logic, I'm aftaid. It's true that we could do without being 18th tonight, and just maybe the long break now will work in our favour in terms of players recovering.
You can now get 17 (16/1) against us getting relegated, on Betfair. Cardiff are 1.39 (2/5 on). Burnley 5.2. And Brighton, who I really don’t think are out of the mire at all, are a staggering 30. If we win on Saturday, those odds will shorten quite a bit, though the same applies to our odds, should we lose.
Oh go on then, I couldn't wait for the official match thread...this is what made me fall in love with Captain Fantastic...
Not convinced TBH. Take Cardiff out of the table and it would be. This isn't a 6 pointer - a draw wouldn't be a particularly bad result for either side.
Its sure to get bigger as the game approaches, but not as big as the L1 clash. That game still gives me the bumps, amazing!
Me too....surprised he didn't get into real trouble for that. What a crap ground though....the view from back there must have been awful....not that any Saints fans minded.
Doesn't even look real. I mean, most lower division grounds might be small, but there's an immediacy to them...you might only have a capacity of 200 people, but they're all close enough to make it feel like A Moment. Then you have Jose Fonte celebrating in a car park that has some happy people for reasons unknown, and also there's a Hi-Vis Wearers Unite rally happening on the track that day.
Our next game is a big opportunity for both teams. If Brighton win, they're basically home and dry. If we win, we take a big step closer to safety. And a draw wouldn't be disastrous for either side, though probably better for Brighton than us.
