If it's a try before you buy deal only signing if we avoid relegation then the last 2 games may not have helped.
We are being linked to a Brighton keeper which is an odd one . Gunn and Mcgovern should be more than adequate we don't want 4 keepers in our squad . https://www.footballtransfertavern....h-canaries-linked-with-christian-walton-move/
"Norwich are looking for defenders. Goalkeepers are defenders. Ergo, Norwich are looking for goalkeepers" QED. Spot the fallacy!
Pretty sure there's even a Hungarian tea lady spuriously linked to Carrow Road at this stage . I would estimate 80% of the rumours on Newsnow have been total guff.
https://www.leprogres.fr/sport/2021...-des-clubs-prets-a-degainer-pour-mahdi-camara DM rumour, probably a weak link but would be good. Supposedly Normann talks have resumed: https://www.tribalfootball.com/arti...n-talks-today-over-one-sticking-point-4383216
I can see the hesitancy for both the players and the club but surely a relegation clause where he is available for what we pay for him if neither of us decide to continue if we go down would work? Newcastle probably look like a more tempting offer but he's probably less likely to be first choice? At this stage it's probably worth pushing the boat out if he's likely to help us stay up . These transfer windows are like high stakes poker and we certainly don't want to be left with a Naismith sized expensive headache
This is key and why I think it's more likely we walk away from this deal to be honest, I can't see us budging on the relegation thing (and frankly, it makes no sense to have a loan with option to buy if there is no option and it is just compulsory buy - might as well just buy at the outset).
The selling club would probably rather take take the money now as his market value could massively deflate in a struggling relegated side . And the club don't want to shell out their transfer record on a dud , there's risk on both parties. Imagine if Amadou was a compulsory multi million pound purchase ? Ugh
If this is to be believed he's decided not to sign. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/08/...ides-he-doesnt-want-to-sign-for-norwich-city/
A site called HITC is now claiming that Normann has said he doesn't want to go to Norwich anyway. Stuck with him if we go down and he's not sure if he wants to join us? Sounds like a touch of the Naismiths here. Also, I really don't get this. Why is €14m being touted for a player who didn't actually ever play a game for Brighton but got loaned out for both of his years there? It's not like he was 18 at the time. Nor does it look from the stats as if he's set either the Norwegian or the Russian leagues alight. I'm speaking from ignorance, but the guy from St Etienne sounds a much more sensible option to me. Cheaper, younger, and he's done it in France.
I'm guessing Webber wanted to rent him out for a year for about £2m with the option to buy . As you say that price seems massive over inflated based on his achievements/stats
The more I think about it, the more I hope we don't sign this Normann player. The comment about not wanting to play for a club which might get relegated sends out all kinds of warning bells for me. First, it suggests he thinks he deserves to play in the Prem rather than being willing to fight for it. Second, it seems rather presumptuous for a player who is 25 years old and so far has four half-seasons in the Norwegian and Russian leagues under his belt. What proof is there that he is any better than Sorensen? Clubs with billionaire owners can afford to splash out 15m on players who may turn out to have an attitude problem; if it doesn't work out, they can go back to their billionaire owner and ask for another 15m. We can't do that. One thing Webber has excelled at is bringing in players whose attitude is right; he talks about this often when interviewed about his work. I hope/imagine this comment has been a red flag to him and Farke. Let Newcastle take the risk. After all, Normann won't be involved in a relegation scrap if he joins them, will he?
Would we bring them in on a private charter? There's not quite the urgency to get them through a medical! It's probably nothing football related, although Bremen do seem to be having a firesale (over £30m generated from player sales already) and they do have a young, highly rated CB (Friedl). Pinkun are also reporting that there's no option for a permanent move agreed with WBA for Hugill. So either a chance to put himself in the shop window ahead of next summer, or he can come back to Carrow Road for another promotion push...
Hugill not being in the squad last night pretty much told it's own tale. Much rather get a fee for him but at least he will get more opportunities to play if he leaves. Nice guy wish him well if he leaves
The cheeky buggers paid Brighton €1.7m and we offered more than that just as a loan fee . The club would only pay the obligatory €14m if we survive and he plays 50% of our games. Looks like a case of them thinking we are stupid with money to burn and Webber only looking at renting his services for a year, we could survive and send him back if he's not that good just by limiting his game time. As you say it stinks of over importance by the player. It should be an honour to play in the Premier League and if he is half as good as he thinks he is offers from bigger clubs would come in .
