Huge win for the Welsh against a mental Fiji side. Wales played some excellent stuff but Fiji will rue the missed chances especially dropping the ball twice on the Welsh line. The Fijians are lunatics lol, and will do anything to keep the ball in hand even if it means throwing it straight to an opposing player ! Cracking game, great finish. Well done Wales, please let Fiji shock the Aussies lol !

To be honest, I would agree.
We could / should have had a yellow card before Fiji had one - theirs seemed harsh to me. <cheers>

Taff...talking to my Welsh mates, the mood was so bad that really we didn't think we would win...and probably lose to Georgia too ( obviously we can still do that).

How did you think we would do....honestly

Fair few comments on twitter or whatever it's called today about the leniency of the reffing towards Wales compared to Fiji......

I got pulled up on this yesterday, but it's clear that there have been massive inconsistencies between the way England's game was officiated and in subsequent games.
We've seen almost identical incidents to the Curry clash which haven't resulted in red cards and the referee in the Wales game seemed rather pro-Wales.
I do think it happens to England a lot, but the main point is inconsistency.

Hi Beth, I was hopeful - rather than confident - that we’d beat Fiji. Had Pivac still been the coach, I’d have expected us to lose…

Gatland has brought shape and fitness to the squad: the tackle count demonstrated the fitness of the guys.

I don’t think we will lose to Georgia - so the game against the Aussies will be to decide the group, assuming that they also beat Fiji.

I fully agree Col. Curry was probably a yellow, and both yellows were deserved yesterday, under the current rules...but Wales were very lucky to get only one yesterday...

Currys red should bever have been upgraded...can England appeal???
( but didn't England react well, and modify their game accordingly)

I suspect there was a referees meeting after the England match...and a slightly new directive was given

The tackle count:

Wales made 247 tackles....

• N Tompkins 15 made/6 missed
• D. Biggar 13/3
• G. Thomas 23/3
• T. Francis 11/0
• W. Rowlands 27/0
• A. Beard 11/0
• A. Wainwright 17/1
• J. Morgan 21/5
• T. Faletau 11/0
• E. Dee 13/1
• D. Lewis 10/1
• D. Jenkins 13/1

Rowlands made 27 and didn’t miss one!

After the warm up games I was worried, especially if we had lost to Fiji.

Fiji and Georgia are near opposites and each game demands a very different approach

But a bit happier now...

I think that history was made last night by the underdogs - it was first time in RWC history that the 3rd ranked team in a group secured a bonus point win over the top ranked team in the group….. <whistle>

Ref in the wales match was awful and affected the outcome. I do believe there will be upsets in the group phase.

He was awful for both sides.

There were 2 incidents in the first half (I think) when the Fiji number 8 leant over the breakdown, one metre from his line, then seesawed to put his hands on the ball on our side, with his feet in the air right in front of Carley. He then proceeded to do the same at the next breakdown, nothing given on either occasion.

The Fiji yellow for collapsing the maul was nailed on, and given the forward speed and momentum of the maul, why wasn’t it given as a penalty try?

As for the clout to the jaw for Cawdor (Gareth Davies) that tackle could have been a yellow by the current (debatable) standards.

The ruck on our 5m line with Fiji in possession late in that second half was a corker too, a Fijian sprinted in at 45 degrees off his feet and ploughs into a player on the other corner of the ruck right in front of the ref, again, nothing given.

Warburton said afterwards that it was almost double the normal tackle count for a 6 Nations game ! Insane

England's Tom Curry has been banned for three Rugby World Cup games over his red card in the opener against Argentina, but his ban will be reduced to two games if he attends World Rugby's tackle school.

Seems bloody harsh to me <ok>

The only difference I can see is that Currie's Argie had a cut on the forehead-ish and there was blood flowing.

I would have the greatest respect for the lad if he told them to shove their refresher course up their collective arses!

Totally agreed. He was awful for both sides.
But his decisions (for both) affected the game and the result. The game was won and neatly lost. Fiji in the end beat themselves.

Was listening to a few pods over the last few days and respected pundits taking different sides. Some saying it was ridiculous. Others that it was a deffo red because curry had all the time in the world to adjust his height to ensure a lower hit. I have to say I’m becoming a bit flummoxed by the whole tackle thing.
