The two rugby threads have been merged as it was getting a bit confusing having two threads running concurrently. The RWC thread has been merged into the original 'Rugby' thread. I will change the name into 'The Rugby World Cup Thread' and revert it back to the original when the tournament finishes.

I couldn’t work out why it looked like I was the only one watching!

Great game.

Wow !! What a game, that was brutal. Superb win for Ireland, even with some uncharacteristic lineout errors in the first half. Boks had their chances but missed kicks and lineout errors of their own cost them dearly late on. That was one proper game, and wouldn't be surprised if these two meet again in the final, especially with Dupont out for the French. Well done to the Irish , enjoy the night lads<applause>

Looking at the SA try again the final pass goes forward about 4 meters yet it's not a forward pass......

Another rule I don't understand like handball and offside in football....

The ball will always drift in the air
As long as the ball leaves the hand backwards
I have that written on my hand when I’m watching rugby, along with ‘the scrum is a cosmic mystery, don’t question it’ (though I thought the ref handled it very well tonight)

I think there is a lot more to come from Ireland, this wasn’t a England v All Blacks one off like at the last World Cup, more a statement of intent, we will scrap with the toughest.

Get drinking mate.

Regardless of what happens in the next few weeks, we’ve finally shown up at a World Cup. What a display of guts
I did tell you that this Irish team was far superior to your previous World Cup teams, not necessarily in terms of talent but definitely in mentality !
