United v Liverpool is without a doubt the biggest and fiercest rivalry in England and it always will be.

In the thread we had all the mancs agreed it was the bigger rivalry but 1 little thread doesn't speak for everyone. It's the biggest rivalry for me as a Liverpool fan though.

What the **** is that supposed to mean? Which 2 teams hate each other on the pitch? I'd say after the Evra/Suarez affair both sets of players have a dislike for each other. Also, if we are going off player hatred then Arsenal and United of 10 years ago should still be going strong..

The fans hating each other is the history of the clubs. It is pure hatred and nothing else. It's not like the members of the same family can support either team.

    Saints vs p*mpey

    Millwall vs West Ham

    Swansea vs Cardiff

All three have an intensity rarely found when larger clubs meet their local rivals. All three are about more than just football, and all three involve clubs from docks, which may or may not be a coincidence.

Toon vs Sunderland is the best for Atmosphere and fierceness IMO.

Loads of dirty tackles, lots of passion.

SJP is always a 52 and a half thousand sell out. SoS get around 48k.

It's not as internationally respected as the Manc derbies and the cockney derbies, but it's the best ones in the UK IMO, for true blood and tears.

Some of them are to do with deeper inter city rivalries though aren't they? Someone was telling me that Southampton and Portsmouth hate each other due to a dispute between the Royal and Merchant Navies and i think the Liverpool and Manchester hatred goes back to the time of the Manchester ship canal when the Mancunians ensured that Liverpool would never be the wealthiest city in the world - so at least the Mancs get it right now and again <whistle>

Seems to me like the United and Liverpool fans agree the Liverpool United game is the fiercest rivalry.

the likes of Chelsea and Spurs have along way to go before their popularity is anywherenear United or Pool.

Liverpool may not have been successful on the pitch for a few years, but they are a major part of world footballing history and that is why their games with united are so big. Chelsea are still seen by many as the plaything of a rich russian, Spurs are seen as one of Londons other teams behind Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool United is the biggest rivalry going, but that doesnt mean this will be the case for ever...But currently it is.

I live in Birmingham and the North London Derby is far bigger there.

Sky and BBC hype it up to be the most important game in the world when it really isn't. City v United is bigger than United v Liverpool. Any United fan worth their salt will confirm that

United and Liverpool have accumulated the most gloryhunters most of whom have no connection to the club so it stands to reason they would believe the entire world revolves around their clubs.

In terms of current importance City United is definately the bigger game and is a massive rivalry in itself. But City are not big enough globally for it to have massive appeal outside of the Uk.

The North London Derby is one of my favs in fact as it always gives exciting games.......

And you are right about Liverpool and United attracting more gloryhunters than anyother club, but they also attract more decent fans than anyone else, this is due to them having purely more fans than anyone else.

City and Chelseas fanbase has definatly increased since sugar daddies came along, Do all these new fans bleed blue?

It may not be forever, but in my opinion Liverpool vs United is still the biggest rivalry. i could of course be wrong, as Ive probably met less than 0.00001% of the worlds population, but from my experience no other English match is watched so much with no cup being on the line.

Its got bugger all to do with Sky and the BBC, other than giving the public what they want. Over the last 10 years my favorite rivalry has been Liverpool Chelsea, nothing to do with history, we have just been matched together in big games and their has been some real drama along the line.

The 'manc' glory hunters try to identify with Manchester by hating scouse. But they are from surrey.

Sky hype will feed the match when really the match means nothing in global terms compared with say barca real and it's political implications.

The only thing political about the Lancs derby is the way Sky hypes it and the viewing figures.

Liverpool are not on the football map as a global force these days. Most people could not even name more than half of their players. With Rodgers in charge this will continue.

The only thing that keeps Liverpool around as a footballing force is the universal fear of Scousers from Chelsea to Brussels to Turin
