When I had a recording studio in the 90s, I got a crew of teens that booked three hours on a Sunday afternoon. "Aye, we want to do techno, man," they said. They had nothing with them except girlfriends. So I cranked up the bpm and started pulling some samples out. They got into a discussion about what they'd wear when they played a local techno gig, while I wrote parts and one of the girlfriends kept me right over where to put breakdowns and stuff. Mix done, I gave them a DAT tape and they took it round the corner to Radio Forth, where it was played on the 6pm techno show. The other guys in the studio asked if that didn't piss me off that I'd done all the work for them.
