Len Deighton, author, has passed aged 97. Enjoyed a lot of his books ans films/tv adaptations including Ipcress Files, SSGB and XPD
That’s a decent innings. A very good writer, though the quality varies, and I am currently halfway through his epic trilogy of trilogies about Bernard Samson, a British spy in Berlin in the Eighties. Plus an extra book called Winter which gives the historical backstory to some of the characters, covering Germany 1899 to 1945 - this is a truly superb book.

RIP Len and thanks.

Last Saturday morning, I had to put to sleep my best friend, my beautiful boy, my dog Barney. He was a golden retriever 13 years old, he had dementia and his hind legs had gone. I am heartbroken, I know some would say it’s not the same loss as a human being dying, but he was my baby ( I don’t have children) and I am lost without him!

On the contrary, I’d say it’s a lot worse than losing 99.9% of the humans in your life. RIP Barney.

My sympathies, Cate.

Our deepest sympathy, Kate. Make no mistake, an animal loss is equal to a human loss. My son lost his big Scuby Doo type dog 18 months ago and we still feel the loss now. I sincerely loved that dog, his personality was so adorable. We feel for you.

Sorry to hear you lost your best friend Cate. Had our own blonde retriever (Harvey) who was a big ‘ol lump of softie and madness.
You’ll remember him for the rest of your life with so many close memories. We rarely have someone that close to us for their whole life every day, so the loss is always hardest. Commiserations Cate.

Sorry for your loss Cate. A few years ago a good friend of mine had a golden retriever that passed the same way. It was a family dog, and they couldn't bear the thought of a replacement.
However, a couple of months later they got a puppy and although he could never replace their first dog the puppy really helped to heal their wounds and brought much joy to the household.
