The Lisbon Lions is the nickname given to the Celtic team that won the European Cup at the Estádio Nacional near Lisbon, Portugal on 25 May 1967,[3] defeating Inter Milan 2–1. All but one member of the 15 man squad were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland (Bobby Lennox was born 30 miles away in Saltcoats).[1] Celtic's style was the antithesis of the cynical, but highly effective, defensive style of Inter. Jimmy Johnstonedescribed the team's style as "like the Dutchspeeded-up."[4]

Alessandro Mazzola opened the scoring for Inter with a 7th-minute penalty after Jim Craighad brought down Renato Cappellini. The Italians then retreated into their famous 11-man defence. Inter did not win a single corner and forced Celtic goalkeeper Ronnie Simpsonto make only two saves. Celtic had two shots off the crossbar, and 39 other attempts on goal, 13 of which were saved by Italian goalkeeper Giuliano Sarti, seven were blocked or deflected, and 19 were off-target. Craig made amends for his penalty mistake on 63 minutes, when he laid off the ball for Tommy Gemmell to fire home for the Celtic equaliser. With 83 minutes on the clock, Gemmell was allowed space, and he played the ball to Bobby Murdoch, whose long-range shot was deflected by Steve Chalmers past Sarti into the net.

Celtic were the first British club to win the European Cup, and still the only Scottish club to have reached the final. Celtic are one of only three clubs to have won five trophies in a single season. They reached the final again in 1970 but were beaten 2–1 by Feyenoord after extra time in the San Siro Stadium in Milan.

On Saturday Celtic beat Kilmarnock 1-0 with the goal scored by their No 5 (McNeill's shirt) in the 67th minute (67 the winning year) and as if to close this chapter today it was announced that Stevie Chalmers who scored the winner in 67 had passed away also from dementia...

Star Wars star Harrison Ford has paid an emotional to Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew, who has died aged 74, saying: "I loved him."

Ford, who played Han Solo, praised the "kind and gentle man" for his "great dignity and noble character".

Mayhew died at his home in Texas on 30 April with his family by his side, a statement said.

The British-US actor played the giant Wookiee warrior in several Star Wars films from 1977 until 2015.

"He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame," his family said.

London-born Mayhew played Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, episode three of the prequels and shared the role in 2015's The Force Awakens.

Ford and Mayhew's characters were close friends and piloted the Millennium Falcon in the franchise.

"We were partners in film and friends in life for over 30 years and I loved him," said Ford.

"He invested his soul in the character and brought great pleasure to the Star Wars audience."

'Big man with a bigger heart'
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars films, described Mayhew as "the gentlest of giants".

"A big man with an even bigger heart who never failed to make me smile and a loyal friend who I loved dearly," Hamill tweeted.

Star Wars creator George Lucas had wanted a tall actor to play Chewbacca, but initially considered 6ft 6in (1.98m) tall David Prowse for the role.

However, Prowse wanted to play Darth Vader so Lucas then turned to Mayhew, who at 7ft 2in (2.18m) was chosen purely for his height. His face was never seen in the Star Wars films.

"He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more in Star Wars: The Force Awakens," his family said.

Mayhew also consulted on The Last Jedi, released in 2017, in an attempt to pass on the secrets of the role to his successor, Finland's Joonas Suotamo.

Mayhew's family said "the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film".

"The relationships that began then grew into the friends and family that he would love for decades to come."

The statement also said the actor had been "heavily involved" with non-profit organisations, and had launched his own foundation, which they said supported "everything from individuals and families in crisis situations to food and supplies for children of Venezuela".

Mayhew's family did not say what the cause of his death was.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held on 29 June, while a separate memorial for fans will take place in December, the statement said.

The actor is survived by his wife Angie and three children.

Shamed comedian Freddie Starr has been found dead at his Costa del Sol bolthole.
A carer dialled 999 after discovering the 76-year-old on the floor of his £180,000 townhouse in Mijas near Fuengirola.
Starr, who fled to Spain in July 2015 after a libel case loss against a woman who accused him of groping her when she was 15, was found around 3pm on Thursday.
Police sources said there was nothing to suggest the death of the fallen comic, who suffered asthma and had a quadruple bypass following a heart attack in 2010, was suspicious.

Seems inconceivable now that, as a progressive, he had to battle to change the Australian national anthem from "God save the Queen" to "Advance Australia Fair." RIP
