Here we go again, can't we just Let It Be? (or was that Phil Spector?)

He's at the end of his Long and Winding Road. There will be standing room only at the funeral but We Can Work It Out. I was only thinking about the Beatles, Yesterday. Can't stop, got to Get Back to work.

Knew that would get you biting....don't really care about upsetting you Grove, but George Martin and The Beatles were an integral part of my childhood and formative years......if you're that wound up by it all, why do you even bother to read the thread? Surely thats 5 seconds of your life that you'll never Get Back

I found it oddly moving earlier when Nicky Campbell gave a time-check on Radio 5......

'Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock as the day begins'

He was a thoroughly decent chap, I've seen many interviews and documentaries about him and he always came across as far more interesting than any of the Beatles were. His work at Abbey Road was ground breaking, not just with the fab four.
I can't say I am the worlds biggest Beatles fan but I don't agree with those who dismiss their influence on music and culture. They were and will probably always be the biggest band ever.

Martin complimented wonderfully, and harnessed the genius of, Lennon and McCartney. Without him, the sounds of The Beatles would have been very different.

RIP <rose>

It looks like a young Raymond Van Barneveld !

It is none other than Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, star of the silent screen more famous for a couple of trials for rape and manslaughter than his on-screen antics. His career took a nosedive after being accused of causing the death of an "aspiring actress" with the press accusing him of using a bottle to rape her before killing her during sex due to his substantial weight.

The court cases fell apart and he wasn't convicted but his career was never the same. I would heartily recommend the book "I, Fatty" a fictional account of his life told from his own point of view. One of the best books I've read and, contrary to belief, I've read a few books in my time. I changed my icon shortly after finishing the book and decided to keep it instead of switching between comedy heros.

I have yet to ascertain if Roscoe either supported or was even aware of the existence of QPR. RIP Fatty.

RIP George Martin.......producer for The Beatles amongst many others, we must all have been influenced in some way by his work with them........but doubt he was a QPR fan.........grand old age of 90.........RIP

I think it's quite safe to say that this gentleman was a genius within the music industry. RIP Sir George Martin <rose>

Seems Keith Emerson had been fighting cancer of the colon/ bowel cancer for some years. He just felt he'd reached the end of the road. As Stroller says, his music lives on. RIP <rose>

That wasn't just me being pretentious by the way Goldie. That phrase is the title of an album by Nice in case anyone didn't get it. Appropriate today.

Really approriate, Strolls. I didn't pick up the relevance, it's been many years since I listened to anything by The Nice. I'm going to take another look. All these names in music we're losing - most 10-15 years older than me. In hindsight, a talented and creative generation

RIP George Martin and Keith Emerson. Both huge talents. The Nice were one of my favourite bands back then who I saw play many times.
