Saw the news during band rehearsal last night, so we paused and did an impromptu version of Wichita Lineman...
I've been walking these streets so long, singing the same old song I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of broadway. Where hustles the name of the game and nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain. Great song my old mums favourite,Bit Gutted R.I.P Glen.
Indeed, 2 of the original Human League, Marsh and Ware formed BEF; Heaven 17 was one of their spin offs. Glen Gregory recorded this on their "Music of Quality & Distinction" album. If you like covers, BEF is worth a listen.
Another part of my childhood gone. Always loved watching Brucie on the Generation Game, and even in his 80s on Strictly, he showed he still had that sparkle and finesse - the mark of a true entertainer. RIP Sir Bruce...
Who's left now, loved watching Generation game with all the family, nobody went out until it was over!
Probably my earliest TV memory, 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium', a programme we never missed and very much his programme. My Dad who was the head barman at the Waldorf Hotel throughout the 60s and early 70s said he was one of the really nice guys who always took time to talk to people. We won't see his like again, RIP...
When I think about the staples of British television when I was younger, we have comparatively recently lost Terry Wogan, Paul Daniels, Ronnie Corbett, Barry Norman and now Brucie. Who's left? I suppose Mike Yarwood (who retired ages ago), Little & Large, Parky, Jimmy Tarbuck, Nicholas Parsons. No doubt a few more, but it's horrible saying goodbye to these pieces of your own life story.
I don't think even icons of British popular entertainment of the 1970s get an immortality ticket Ubes. Though Nicholas Parsons is giving it a good go.
