An absolute legend, who was admired by all.

It says a lot that an umpire is up there as a stand out sporting personality of my youth.
RIP and a genuine character, and definitely even handed as an umpire.

Not sure all bowlers appreciated him though, an instinctive not outer, perhaps understandable from a former opening batsman. Also anti technology in cricket, where (unlike VAR) I think it has played a really positive role. Perhaps football teams should get 3 referrals a match rather than every single potential incident being reviewed.
