RIP Graham.

My dad knew him as he used to steward at Watford, said he was a nice guy.

Will 2017 have as many famous names pass away as last year?

loved the hoof ball tactics with bean pole strikers. Not good on the eye. Rest in Peace
Well you obviously never saw Watford playing in their prime then - hoofball it was not. In fact in at least half the Taylor years at Watford it was a midfielder that won Player of the Season. You could not call Blissett a beanpole striker - especially from a club who had Crouch as a striker!

Not good on the eye - it was when we crushed the Rhinchers 4-0 at Vicarage Road - blamed by Venerballs on the slope of the pitch!.....

no disrespect for

sorry, I was thinking of 7ft Ross Jenkins who played 300 games under Graham, or was it 6ft 6inch George Reilly. Whatever, rest in peace Graham
He organized us to play to our strengths, which is what good managers do. You can't take a club from div. 4 up to second in the first division by playing only hoofball. He was a great manager when working with long term player development - less so when working with pre established stars. Prior to Graham coming we had (apart from a couple of years under Ken Furphy) only ever been a 3rd or 4th div. team - everything which has happened since is down to his influence. He allowed my rather nondescript home town to place itself on the map, and to believe in something. He was always open to everyone, never aloof and never arrogant, a real gentleman, of which there are few left in modern football. A part of our adolescence, who grew up with us, and matured with us. He doesn't just belong to us, or to Villa fans, but to all real football fans. As others have said on here, I hope this is not a sign of what is to come in 2017 (no repeats of 2016 please !) and that we have fewer RIP notices than last year. RIP Graham <rose>

I really dislike this minutes applause thing, to show respect why can't people just stay silent for a minute and think about the person they are remembering?

One of the good guys was Graham Taylor and what he did at Watford will remain one of the great achievements in English League Football.....RIP
