OK, I know it's deeply uncool to like Coldplay, but I unapologetically do. We went to see them at Wembley last night and the whole evening was a joyful experience.

My son and daughters were there, having also been to Oasis last month, and the consensus of their opiniins was that Coldplay were hands down better. One quote was that the Oasis gig might as well have been a couple of randoms doing karaoke, whilst Coldplay put on a proper show. They loved it last night, and so did I.

I’ve seen them a few times. They put on a great show, always uplifting and a visual treat too. I say this despite only really liking their first two albums. Part of the English condition to knock people/bands/organisations once they’ve reached a level or success.

Not enough has been made of the appalling manner Oasis’ management handled their ticket sales. Sick of hearing the media fawning over them and how great it is they are back. Two ignorant egotistical blokes fighting like children for years, brought back together by the medium of huge financial gain, beautiful.

Having stated the obvious, I actually quite like Oasis too, despite their unoriginal often formulaic tunes.

The Hostage on Netflix.

This drivel is so staggeringly awful, so very poorly written it’s actually magnificent. For anyone on here, I warn you, Coventry vs QPR would be a more entertaining watch.

A totally, shockingly dire plot which if not so outrageously unbelievable is finalised by someone calling 999 and getting an armed police response (as it’s a silent 999 call) and that’s what happens.

This is up there with The Room as regards pi55poor TV/Film. If this is the standard of what the general public find realistic or entertaining, we are doomed.

Beyond dreadful.

I went to see The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe at Sadlers Wells with one of my daughters prompted by her saying it bought back good childhood memories of me reading it to her.
What a piles of steaming poo, we left at half time, the funny thing the next day I got an email asking for what I thought of it, this was my reply:-
I left at half time which couldn't come to soon, this I figured save me 1 hour of my life. I had already lost one.
This was like watching a poor school production with a decent budget but without your children in it. I can imagine a sad English teacher producing a school end of term play, one who believes he should be producing in the West End and this should be why that person shouldn't.
The script was clumpy, how do you even do that with a classic book, the attempts at humour flopped and the song lyrics would have been laughable if they weren't so painful. Mr Tumnus was so bad, I hoped he stayed as a stone statue
This was the worst show I've seen on a London stage (or any stage) I have seen and I've seen Miss Saigon.

No so much a review, more a complaint. Read an interview with Karen Gillen couple of days, and she's over the moon that she"s been cast to play one of the leading roles in the remake of 80s classic Highlander. WTF, do none of these ****s in Hollywood have an original idea anymore? I can't think of a single reboot than surpasses the original (I'm sure there are some, I can't be arsed to check). As to Highlander, how can they beat that soundtrack - it's literally "A kinda magic"

The Room - I had to watch that, just to see how bad it was....truly dreadful. Along with The Hostage, the new War of the Worlds, with Ice Cube, is getting totally slated.

Here's an interesting article about the draw of **** films...

So bad they're good - why do we love terrible films?

Film critics have delivered a verdict: the new version of War of the Worlds – which stars Ice Cube as a man who must save humanity from an alien invasion without leaving his desk – is bad.

But how bad? Is it just "the worst possible adaptation of HG Wells's work", external? Is it "one of the worst movies of the decade so far", external? Or might it actually be "one of the worst movies ever made", external?

When the reviews started coming in this week, the internet soon took delight in the film's 0% critic score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

Highlander is one of the most supremely daft films ever made. I loved it.

Idle stupidity to remake.

Strangely, The Disaster Artist, the film about The Room is really good but I think you need to see The Room first to fully appreciate the film about it.

The new Superman film is as entertaining as a dose of amoebic dysentery.

My son and I go to the cinema weekly and end up often watching a film we mightn’t ordinarily want to see. Hence we saw the new Superman film a couple of weeks ago. Dreadful waste of 2 hours and £30.

One result of this weekly routine is that we saw a French anime movie called Mars Express a few weeks back. Truly, not seeking to appear elitist, snobby, pseudo-cultured pricks, this was just one new film we hadn’t seen or heard of and was more appealing that what else was on. Anyway, it was really good and I’d recommend it.

I don’t like Coldplay or Oasis.

But I’ll defend to the death your right to like them, no matter if they are not to my taste.

Well, perhaps not the death. More probably a Chinese burn delivered by a 90 year old with brittle bone syndrome. Yeah, that’s how hard I’d fight for Coldplay and Oasis.

I saw Oasis a couple of times first time round - neither gig would make my top 50 gigs. Liam was a twat, flouncing off stage when him and Noel had words or if someone threw a drink at him - once was at Hampden, which is a terrible venue for a gig anyway as it's soulless.

Also saw Coldplay a few times in their very early years - much better live than Oasis, but also would struggle to break in to my top 50. Supergrass supported them at Bellahouston Park, and blew them off the stage. I've seen some of Coldplays sets from Glastonbury on TV, and they are very polished these days - it"s all a bit too "nice" for me though. Give me an up and coming band in a small venue any day, playing with real passion and not doing it for the money but for the love of it.

Started to watch the new BBC series King and Conqueror last night (something I'd been looking forward to) about 1066, Hatold and William. Some good actors in it, but I've found the script quite clunky and some of the acting is fairly wooden. I do wonder if some of this is down to being produced by CBS in conjunction with BBC, dumbing it down for an American audience....the Earl of Wessex sounds like he's straight out of a Guy Ritchie gangster movie, not what you'd expect from an 11th century lord! Guess we've been spoiled by Vikings, and Vikings.Valhalla, two shows with big budgets that were really well done.
