I don't doubt that I am doing something wrongAlways worked for me when I was overseas....
The excellent A House through Time returns on 26 May, with David Olusoga, this time in Bristol. Both preceding series have been outstanding.
First one was in Liverpool. Very good, but I preferred the Newcastle one, partly because Olusoga has a personal connection with the city and also because I know the town better and I like it a lot. Know Bristol quite well also....Thanks for the heads up. I hadn’t realised there had been two series to date; I only saw the Newcastle series, which was very enjoyable.
Don’t distract me, I’ve got another 50 episodes of Mad Men to cram in.Just finished watching a series called ZeroZeroZero. I only came across it because Mogwai have done the soundtrack and just released it - they are great at doing this sort of thing, must be their fourth or fifth soundtrack.
ZeroZeroZero is Italian slang for the purest cut of cocaine (it's based on the gradings for the finest grade of flour). The program follows a drug deal that originates in Mexico, is brokered by a shipping firm in New Orleans, and is destined for Calabria in Italy.
There's power struggles in both Italy and Mexico, and whilst the broker attempts to deliver the shipment of 5 tonnes of coke to Italy, it gets waylaid. Each episode (there's 8 in total, all just under an hour long) follows the three storylines. It has a very clever way of telling the story, where halfway through the episode an event happens that would normally be the end-piece, but then they go back and show the events leading up to this from a different characters perspective.
Beautifully shot across three continents, with some good depth to some of the characters.
Any fans of Gomorrah? It's based on the book written by Roberto Saviano, the writer of Gomorrah, and is produced by Stefano Sollima, Leonardo Fasoli and Mauricio Katz who worked on the TV adaptation of Gomorrah.
I believe it may be on Sky Atlantic or Now TV, couldn't find it on Amazon even though it's an Amazon production. There's a lot of subtitles if that puts you off. A fair bit of violence, although nothing too graphic (although I'm in no rush to each any pork products that come from Italy any time soon.....).
****ing hell I’m actually quite into Mad Men now, very well written and acted, just starting series 4, another 3 to go after that....just to discover that it’s off Netflix on June 9th, so have to cram it all in.
Not much violence but someone did get their foot cut off by a lawn mower....in an office. Which at least shows imagination.
Less drinking, smoking and shagging during office hours? It's very good, and for someone who has worked in that type of agency setting (with obvious and significant differences!) it was particularly enjoyable.
If anyone on here hasn't watched The Last Dance on Netflix, I'd strongly recommend it. Fascinating insights into Michael Jordan and the Bulls team from the late 80s / 90s.
