Border force have been cut to the bone and quite often have to rob people from the channels just to try and get the Q’s down.
The place is in a much turmoil as my old place.
I might be wrong but I would think the people telling you which Q to go in are either the airline staff or BAA.....Border Force are the ones who have to check your passport and are completely different.

I think the airline scheduling often doesn't help, recently at T3 had three big flights from major US cities all landing within 10 minutes of each other and with other Non UK/EU flights at the same time it really isn't rocket-science there are gonna be a lot of people to be processed...

To be honest the airlines couldn’t give a ****. They have their slots, they put in the flights that suit their needs (eg most US flights will arrive in the morning so they leave at a decent time from the states). It’s all about profit and then makes it easy to shove the blame onto others.

I’m sure you are right about who does the shepherding into queues Stainsey. They certainly aren’t the sharpest tools in the box. Making entering the country a thoroughly miserable experience is hardly the ‘open for business’ message we are meant to be sending. If, Post Brexit, we transfer the EU nationals to the ‘others’ queue it will only get worse. I hardly ever see any staff in the customs channels, but I suppose they have identified the people they want to search before they get that far rather than pulling people over at random.

I wish there was more flexibility about trans Atlantic flight times, but I suppose it would **** up night time landings and upset the locals. It would be great for me to get an early afternoon flight back, land at about midnight. It’s incredibly difficult for me to get connections for the morning flights from the US which get in about 9 in the evening, which is ideal for minimising jet lag. I suppose the one advantage of the Boris island idea was it would make round the clock flying more likely. But the proposed location would have been a complete nightmare for me. And anyway, I’d be long dead before it was operational.

We need to spread some of these flights around to other airports, but it seems that the demand from the provinces isn’t there for regular flights. Until last November there were two flights a day from Birmingham to the US, one to Newark, one to JFK. Both cancelled due to ‘lack of demand’. So now I have to drive down to Heathrow at a ludicrously early hour on a Sunday and then drive back jet lagged. It’s all about me, of course.

I arrive for my flight from Luton about 20 mins before the gate shuts. Great thing is they usually call me on occasions so I can jump the security queue.
I have had three sprints this year but I just cannot join the distinctional mass
Oh my days... if there is a fire or incident I could only see a real mess occurring
People have lost something imo don’t know when it happened or why but I am forced to zone out

As people know I am a massive fan of Ryanair €32 euros in the most expensive flight I have purchased this year. Got to know a lot of the crews over the last few years

Did anyone see the first episode of 'Bodyguard' ( 9pm BBC1 ) last night? It's written by Jed Mercurio who also wrote 'In the line of duty.' It was every bit as gripping as ITLD and the first twenty minutes or so were breath takingly dramatic. The fifth series of ITLD starts filming this Autumn and was delayed due to making Bodyguard.

It was every bit as gripping as ITLD and the first twenty minutes or so were breath takingly dramatic. The fifth series of ITLD starts filming this Autumn and was delayed due to making Bodyguard.

Sounds good, I'm going to watch it tonight. Keeley Hawes, mmmm.

Raw nerve there Ninesy, the Stan household is divided. The wife is a huge Jed Mercurio fan. I loved his first effort, the wonderful Grimleys. Respected the first ITLD, thought the last series was laughably unrealistic (and I’m not too demanding regarding realism in TV fiction, but even rock hard lady coppers don’t walk out of hospital ten minutes after having their arm amputated and still riddled with sepsis. shame on a doctor writing this). I watched about the first 30 minutes of the new effort, looked well acted, but I’m full of this unremittingly grim drama which is all over the telly nowadays. In that 30 minutes not a single person smiled, let alone laughed. This is just not normal human behaviour, even in the worst circumstances.

I know, because of the Grimleys, that young Jed has a great sense of humour. He is a very good writer and recruits excellent actors. He doesn’t have to make his police procedurals into comedy, but ffs LIGHTEN UP! Humans smile at each other, give a friendly nod of recognition, don’t treat someone assigned to carry out a potentially life threatening task on your behalf like **** on sight (Keeley!).

Think this one will go one of two ways, but let’s allow Strolls to catch up before engaging in possibly spoiling speculation.

It’s not so much a lack of humour, I’m not looking for laughs, more a lack of normality. People smile. Having just read how the first episode ended, I am halfway to my predicted conclusion.

I watched it yesterday evening having read the correspondence here. I'm not aware of the writer's other works that have been discussed as I long since felt saturated by the myriad crime/thriller/cop/espionage-type shows that Auntie and ITV spaff out with surprising regularity that I tend not to bother with them that much. The office chat each day goes right over my head seeing as I tend work most evenings with Babestation playing rhythmically in the background

Yes, the opening sequence on the train was quite gripping, although you knew the main star wasn't going to get exploded during the opening moments of Episode One. It then kinda plodded along to an lethargic end after that, with the writer presumably looking to build a number of threads carefully to a thrilling climax at the end of the series (probably more spaff).

I thought Keeley was carrying some extra timber (sorry, Strolls...she's all yours).

We had a family Netflix session last night, daughter chose the film then fell into a coma having just returned from the Reading festival.

It was Chef, written and directed by John Favreux, who also played the lead. He does lots of the big Marvel movies, but this was the opposite end of the scale, a low(ish) budget father-son bonding tale, where he got lots of his big film star mates to play bit parts - Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. Low key, gently funny, quite charming entertainment. And the food looked great. As much of the film was set in a food truck being driven from Miami to LA, with stop offs to cook for the locals in various different cities, I really appreciated the avoidance of use of fake jeopardy like crashes or chases, boiling fat incidents, the kid going missing etc just letting the pretty inconsequential story and good acting do the work.

Nice way to spend an evening (with the company of a few glasses of Primitivo) decent quality disposable entertainment.

Watched the first episode now, and was sufficiently gripped to want to see more. I wasn't bothered by the overall grimness (although it did seem to be dark a lot) and I'm guessing Keeley's nastiness towards her Personal Protection Officer is necessary for plot development - is he going to top her or be complicit in her demise? The PPO was played as a rather robotic character, which I hope was deliberate.

Keeley looked damned fine to me, Uber. Good of you to stand aside.

Chef is a great feelgood movie and stellar performances from all of the actors. I especially like the spontaneous Sexual Healing roadtrip singing. And those Cuban sandwiches.....

Eric and Ernie, the excellent TV drama by Victoria Wood about the early years of Morcambe and Wise on BBC2 again now, with her as Eric’s mum and Vic Reeves/Jim Moir as his dad. Vic really should act in more things, he is excellent as well as being a truly original talent.

Proper drama, and people smile, just like in real life.

My wife has just noticed that Gone Girl is on later and wants to watch it again because she likes the house the couple at the centre of it live in. Sometimes the property mania goes too far......
