Narrow escape though, Texas are playing at one of the other venues, Ninesy’s favourite all time band).

They're not my all time favourite band, but they're definitely in my top one! Joking aside I do like her voice and know the lead guitarist Ally McErlaine. I think Bowie would be my favourite artist closely followed by Steps.

I used to do karate with the dark haired one, ( not H ) I can't remember his name but he was a really nice bloke ... just looked it up ... Lee Latchford Evans. Our instructor ( sensai ) was this man, hard as nails but a great man who had to undo all of his training in order to become a human being again ... A fascinating man to have an open conversation with, a really transparent and intelligent man, Robin Horsfall.

I've just finished a really good book ( fiction. ) It's a historical crime novel set around the time of JFK's assasination, and it's about the aftermath of the shooting when a real life crime boss ( Carlos Marcello ) tries to clean up all of the loose ends. One of them is one of his henchmen Frank Guidry who unwittingly becomes tied to the incident. When everyone around him starts to turn up dead and suspecting that he's next he decides to go on the run. When he sees a beautiful housewife with her two young daughters by the roadside he sees the perfect disguise to cover his tracks while his would be killers pursue him.

I'm usually not a lover of mobster tales, but this one is up there for some reason I can't define. I read a lot, so I feel I'm able to sort the wheat from the chaff. This book has got it. It's well paced, has a good plot and great characters and beautiful prose. It will stay with you for a long time after you've finished it and is thought provoking.

It's right up there with ' No Country For Old Men' by Cormac McCarthy for me. And that is one hell of a great story.

Just seen one of the replies to the video ... it made me chuckle ...

''This guy runs a successful Karate school in London now. Spent maybe 5-6 years there as a kid. He would pop in now and again and during gradings. Absolutely hard as nails. Even as a 6 year old I can remember the presence he had it was crazy. He's a bad motherfucker and I have nothing but respect for him.''

For a future review I will be attending Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park sometime over the weekend of 5-7 July, in St Nicholas’ Park Warwick. Really looking forward to this, what should be great food and booze, loads of pop up pubs and eateries, and lots of live music (all seemingly from the 90s and 2000s which must be Tom’s favoured era, bands like Scouting for Girls and Razorlight. Narrow escape though, Texas are playing at one of the other venues, Ninesy’s favourite all time band).

£32 a head, so it had be better be good. That’s just to get in. Bit weather dependent. Though if it’s wet I can wear my wax cotton drovers coat and leather broad brimmed hat, known in my house as the ‘van Helsing outfit’ and guaranteed to make sure that the family stay at least 100 yards away from me. Might wear it even if it’s sunny.
I’ve eaten at The Hand & Flowers in Marlow twice (one time excellent and once just ok) and in his bar at the Corinthian - very good. If you listen to him on Desert Island Discs on iPlayer radio, he has great music taste (to my ear anyway).

The Hand and Flowers is one of the eight or so pop up pubs/restaurants to choose from. Apparently for a VIP ticket you get to hang around with the chefs in the VIP area. I’ll live without that, just stuff my face excessively. I think I heard his Desert Island Discs and thought it was a decent selection.

Decided there are a few films that I should of seen in my life but somehow missed and gonna try to watch 1 a week

Starting off tonight with ‘The Hurricane’, starring Denzil Washington.
Next week I’m thinking ‘The Green Mile’....
Haven’t thought beyond that (Just come up with ‘Withnail and I’ and ‘Jonny Darko’)
I’ll need to compile a list

You asking for help in that?

Where to start, so much time, so little to do....if you’ve not seen it Slap Shot is a great sports film.

Both added to the list......

Dunno about help G, it’s more about watching films that I meant to watch but never got round to it.....it’s more of a personal choice.
For example ‘Forrest Gump’.....just a movie I never got round to seeing.

I’m enjoying ‘The Hurricane’ as read Rubin’s book years ago.

So ‘The Hurricane’.........great film if taken purely as a drama and not a piece of historical fact.
Seems from my further readings and investigations that the film should be taken with a big pinch of salt and has taken the thought of ‘poetic licence’ to a further extreme than even Braveheart........

Sometimes I hate the internet for shattering my illusions of what is and is not the truth :(

I haven't seen the film and only really know the story from the Bob Dylan song. Was he not as innocent as Dylan would have us believe then?

I just did a bit of googling and came across a website that pretty much picks apart the film, the song and the legend of Carter and casts a lot of doubt on his innocence.
Of course it could be the website that’s talking bollox and giving out the untruths....but the bits that can be confirmed pretty much as fact seem somewhat compelling.
The film glosses over a lot of the bad things about Rubin Carter.....I’m now genuinely torn.

I know nothing of this (not a Dylan fan) what’s the story?
