Full-Time: Fulham Under 21's 1-2 Liverpool Under 21's. - Liverpool maintain their unbeaten run in the new Under 21 format and collect a sixth straight away league win in Alex Inglethorps's first league game in charge. Liverpool started with drive and in the 3rd minute, they got a goal! Dani Pacheco played a lovely cross-field ball into the path of Adam Morgan who got past the Fulham defender and slotted the ball home into the bottom left-hand corner. After that goal, Fulham started to get back into the game and saw more of the ball. Just before half-time, they got their reward. Cauley Woodrow was on the left-hand side and from a very acute angle, he produced a fierce shot which surprised Gulacsi somewhat and flew into the net after comign off the underside of the bar. The second half was also fairly even with both sides having chances to get the goal which would put them infront. Halfway through the second half, Liverpool retook the lead. Pacheco hit a shot from just outside the area which stung the hands of Neil Etheridge and he could only palm it out to Adorjan who had a simple finish to make it 2-1. Despite Liverpool re-taking the lead, Fulham still created chances and the best one fell to ex-Liverpool midfielder Pajtim Kasami. Some lovely football got Kasami into the box and he had a fair bit of space in which to prepare for the shot but the shot went just wide. That was a big let-off for Liverpool and you could argue that Fulham got have had a point. Created chances but couldn't take them. (Remind you of someone? ) All in all, a good result for Inglethorpe in his first league game. One game left in this part of the Under 21 league (Crystal Palace at home) and a chance to stay unbeaten in the first part of the new league format.
missed the game today. Glad to see the lads keep the running going..... Couple of assist for Dani too
Fantastic performance by the u18's in the FA Youth Cup - 5-0 win. So dominant and there were a few standout performers: Jordan Ibe and Jerome Sinclair were they usual selves. Jack Dunn almost got a hattrick - class act. My favourite was Baio - played the Lucas role extremely well. Strong in the challenge, confident on the ball and passed efficiently. Future looks good
hi all, BUMP the u21s just beat palace 4-1 with pacheco, flanno, yesil and morgan scoring. yesil is back from injury
U21s end first stage unbeaten Liverpool's U21s completed the opening stage of the Barclays U21 Premier League season unbeaten after a 4-1 victory against Crystal Palace. Goals from Daniel Pacheco, Adam Morgan, Samed Yesil and Jon Flanagan secured a comfortable win for Alex Inglethorpe's side at the Academy to top Group 3 with nine victories and three draws from 12 fixtures. Pacheco launched a shot straight from kick-off which the visiting goalkeeper was forced to punch away for a corner, while Morgan saw an effort cleared off the line in the fourth minute. Morgan sent a drifting lob close just minutes later as Inglethorpe's side started quickly, before Danny Ward had to react smartly to deny a drive by Kwesi Appiah on the quarter-hour. Pacheco guided the Reds in a rapid counter-attack and when the ball rebounded to the Spaniard, he glided past several defenders before clipping an attempt back towards goal - well handled by the 'keeper. Seconds later, Pacheco was afforded far too much time and he took advantage with a pinpoint punt from distance, only for Ross Fitzsimmons to match the strike again with a stretching dive. The match was almost becoming a one-on-one duel, with Fitzsimmons leaping high to his left to tip another Pacheco blast wide of the post. Palace reacted, with one-time Reds youth Jason Banton beating Flanagan and working Ward from the edge of the box. With five minutes of the opening period remaining, two inswinging corners by Morgan found Jack Robinson completely free at the back post - but the defender's weak headers dribbled wide on each occasion. The misses did not cost Liverpool, however, as Pacheco finally beat Fitzsimmons. The Spaniard claimed his fourth goal of the season after a lengthy dribble and crisp finish across the 'keeper from 20 yards. A mistake by Stephen Sama almost gifted a goal to the bustling Appiah but Flanagan covered effectively to ensure that the Reds entered the break with their lead intact. Within a minute of the restart, it was 2-0 to the hosts. Krisztian Adorjan's left-footed strike was beaten out by Fitzsimmons but Morgan was on hand from the right to poach a simple tap-in. A period of terrific build-up from the Reds released Brad Smith on the left. His centre arrived at Marc Pelosi, who struck an impressive half-volley which sailed narrowly over. German striker Yesil made a return from injury when introduced as a second-half substitute, after Matthew Parsons thrashed a low strike beyond Ward to reduce the arrears for Palace. It did not take long for Yesil to make an impact either, latching onto a precise through ball from Craig Roddan to perfectly dink a finish over the outcoming Fitzsimmons and restore a two-goal cushion. The Reds rounded off an impressive performance when Flanagan linked well with Morgan and Yesil to bustle a shot past Fitzsimmons and claim a fourth.
Apparently, the performance wasn't as good as the scoreline suggests. Either way, I'll happily take it. Credit to Rodolfo for creating a phenomonal youth team - there are some great prospects coming through. I'm very excited to see the progression of the full backs in Ryan McLaughlin, Brad Smith, Jack Robbo ... I saw the performance against Swindon town earlier this week and we have a young DM called Baio (excuse the spelling). Played extremely well in the Lucas role
yeah, we need to really keep pushing these guys and i think the next step we need to enter into is finding some real feeder club somehwere that we can really send 3 kids a year to and get them playing. I think where we are at is this u21s is just not hard enough and by contrast the u19 next gen is a big step up in level for our yuonger lads. you can really see that at an elite level england is behind.
Good result from the lads. Considering Pacheco seems to be leaving in January, i think it is admirable that he still gives 100% every time he puts the shirt on whether first team or reserves. Although the managers have never rated him, i think he has some qualities that are a shining example to some of the younger players coming through....The lad hasnt given up yet, even in the face of adversity.... Go Dani,,,whoop whoop whoop whoop
he didn't always have that and i wonder if adversity over the past two years taught him it or whether he's trying to get a club. who knows..... it does seem that while he's good enough at u21 level people just do not see that something that bridges the gap to seniors. for suso its two footedness and vision, for sterling its just pace, for wisdom its power. maybe he can make it at a club with less highly paid lazy Bstards who will need him and then push him in to play.
I think this is what he needs.... The opportunity to just play. With game time he is going to get better and better. Has been the main man for the U21s this season and many other seasons, (except last season.) He is not going to get a run at our team, so I just hope he goes somewhere he can play, be appreciated and develop... If he does really well and we get linked with him in the future im going to be properly pissed..lol
He went on loan on Norwich and impressed? That should have been the 'start' of his career at a higher level ...
look no prem side will risk it so he tried to not go championship but to go to athletico instead. he'll be on a free shortly so..... link away. he's not nor ever will be messi, ronaldo or even downing! seriously lads, tom ince? he's no better than the two jewels we have in our first team... a lot worse actually. sterling and suso are going to be great great players. we've picked them and let ince, silva and even pacheco go. think about it. sterling, suarez, borini... two more top players (coughs) where's the room for ince. suso allen lucas, gerrard, shelvey, henderson.... i still don't see much room for anyone to come in! If we buy ince for me it will be a clear incidation of not having any desire to spend moeny and no desire to do better than just midtable. we need to add at least one and more like 2 top strikers who can play wide and come in or play false 9 in place of suarez.... i think sturridge stuff is all over the place but i'm dealr yhoping we can target to buy one actually proper player who can socre 20 goals a year. let pacheco go... wish him well... don't worry about it cos we've moved on to the players we want to bring through at really top players... how can pacheco develop as a bit parter...you canbuy an expereinced player like benayuon as a bit parter but a kid needs expereince.
