As in any business, you have the boss, and you have the workers. So, if the boss says jump, you either jump, or you jump ship.

Football really is no different, just substitute boss for owner. He, or she, reigns supreme, and has the last word on everything, and that's how it has always been.

The really top managers like Wenger, Ferguson, etc., wouldn't be subjected to the interference, but the likes of OGS or Warnock wouldn't really have the clout to do much other than say " Yes sir ". They get handsomely paid, so do as they are told.

Just my opinion, of course, others are no less valid.

Wouldn't argue with that Dai, but it also suggests that strings were being pulled behind his back over which he had no control. That's not something said in support of him.

If true, and we've got no reason to doubt Ben Turner, any experienced UK manager worth his salt would have stuck two fingers at Dalman/Tan and walked with that sort of interference. Slade was brought in after he was elbowed and probably continued taking the shilling as part of his remit. Trollope was a disaster and Warnock did what he was good at.

As far as OGS at Manure is concerned, he is probably doing much the same thing - a front man for Woodward who makes the decisions. Having said that, if his motivational skills were on view last night, then he wont be there long - step in Pochettino.

If you have a family and a mortgage to pay, sticking your fingers up in a fit of pique is a luxury most people cannot afford. If you are on a good salary, biding one's time is a far more sensible alternative.

In other words taking the shilling.

OGS isn't "most people" - he was/is a highly paid professional with a standing in the game that he has utilised to his advantage.

If OGS hasn't got himself into a position of security through his playing career and subsequent coaching and management positions to be abe to walk, he either hasn't got the bottle or principles.

He landed a job at Cardiff after managing in Norwegian football and seemingly put up with interference over team selection let alone acquisitions. That's not a question of "lack of security", it's more a question of lack of character.

Just my opinion of course.

What's wrong with " taking the shilling " ? It's actually taking a salary, or wage. No shame in it, so why try and demean it. Doubtless you have indulged in that at some point in your working life, along with millions of others.

OGS certainly had a huge standing in the game as a player, but he had very little managerial standing when he took the reins at Cardiff. He has more now simply by associating with his former employers.

Most football fans' share a similar trait, in as much as they are always looking for someone to blame for their teams failures. They do that consistently, without really knowing exactly what goes on within the day to day workings of the Club they follow.

" hasn't got ..... principles ". " lack of character ". Sounds a lot like the Cardiff owner, and that's not just my opinion. <laugh>

In my working life I have twice told the boss to stuff his job where the sun don't shine. 1st time I walked into a new job the next day. 2nd time I had 3 weeks without pay. There are times in your life that there are things more important than money.

Vetch - for Christ's sake don't start lecturing us about principles and club owners from down there.

We've sat and watched the patchy history of you lot regarding "principles" and "owners" over the past 20 years or so enough to know you've got one hell of a neck coming out with that. Will we be bringing out the buckets again?......<laugh>

Guys, you're giving vetch the oxygen he craves. He goes on sites these days simply to stir things up. That goes on his own club's board as well as here. His opinions are usually badly supported by fact and he has a huge brass neck, in my opinion....other opinions are available but don't differ a lot!!!!
