You cannot say the Koran is the only religious 'rule book' that advocates violence towards other faiths- the Christian Bible is also full of violent text particularly in the Old Testament is filled with horrible crimes that God sanctions and even commands.

There is Genocide, including a divine order to kill women and children at Jericho. There is Fratricide where God commands followers of Moses to kill their own families.

in the book of Matthew Jesus stated 'Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword' -

I understand mate however I posted a link earlier in the thread that explains the differences between texts of violence in the bible, and those in the Quran.

I'm not going to report any racism as I'm a visitor on this board and believe it would be wrong of me to do so, however I really hope that decent Sunderland fans are doing so. Wonderful way to dissuade any visitor from using this board.

I've read the Bible, I'm in the process of reading the Koran (God knows why <doh>) - it gives me a better understanding of how humanity is collectively brainwashed - I respect the fact you have your faith & beliefs and power to you mate, but all I learnt from it is Humanity would be unfettered with it

I think people finding themselves restricted by religion are the people at fault, not the religion itself.

You clearly have some sort of religious bias, which I'm not going to argue against, you do what the **** you like and I'll do what the **** I like. I'm not agreeing with EVERYTHING you said at all, as we can all see your inferences pointing towards how religion is good on the whole, yet Islam is ****ed up and warped beyond repair and provides a platform for everything bad, which is probably the most unfounded thing written over these 4 pages.

I started off by saying it's either all or nothing, with religion, it's not an Islam problem, it's a religion problem, or it's a human problem. I'm more inclined to say that the wave of terrorism is actually a human problem, because it's not exclusive to Islam no matter how many times you want to infer that.

"I think a lot of people are brainwashed against religion", that statement is pathetic. If you're attempting to call me out as somebody who dismisses religion on the basis that it's seen as 'cool to be atheist' nowadays you couldn't be further from the truth.

This is not a call to violence, it's a metaphor for family division and the possibility of severing links, as the cost of following Jesus.
The gospel of Luke expresses the same message in different words: "Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division"
and elsewhere the gospel of Matthew says that " all who draw the sword will die by the sword"

As for Moses, Joshua at Jericho etc, these are examples of a pseudo-historical, mythical account of what is supposed to have happened to the Jews and their faith. They are linked indirectly, through the Jewishness of Jesus and his followers, to the New Testament. They are NOT a list of demands made of the followers of Christianity, where the prime message are "love thy neighbour" , "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "turn the other cheek."
Jesus is supposed to have redrawn the morals and ethics found in the Old Testament.

The Koran and the Hadiths contain explicit statements which demand violent actions against those who do not "submit" to the political ideology of Islam. I'm struggling to remember any demands by Jesus or his disciples to kill non-believers.

The BBC is particularly good at this Old Testament slant. They don't like us to take the word of the Hadiths at face value. After all, they keep telling us that Islam means peace, rather than submission, humbling oneself . "Religion of peace", my arse!

Why apply 21st century thinking to rules and teachings that were supposed to have been framed somewhere in pre-history?

I'm well aware of what you said ............. "This is a MUSLIM problem, not a religion problem."

    Now you're saying it's a religious problem <doh>
