Nail on head!............Of course, always remembering that we've failed to beat them in our 4 previous attempts! Things are on the up then! <cheers>

Depends on your definition of 'top'. He's been great for us but I don't see him anywhere near the level of, say Negredo.

Today we were below average first half and only a little above in the second. Ill-discipline by the opposition helped.

But what defines Negredo as a top player, as what is he really like compared to say Suarez, or RVP.

Michu is possibly the top player here at Swansea. Does that then make him a possible top player, considering we finished 9th in the Prem last season, and are in Europe?

No. Not for me. He's a very good player for sure but is well down the pecking order when you start comparing him to the likes of Negredo, Aguero, Suarez and so on. Not knocking him at all, that's just the way it is.

But why, these good players are helped by the quality of players surrounding him, players who can cross for a start, which is something Michu has never really got from Swansea. So with better players around him, would he then be a top player, I mean he must have something, to have got a call up to the Spain squad, even if not the top few choices, but a choice indeed.

There is also the fact that Michu is not a striker, like the players we are comparing him too, so instead, could he be classed as a top AM? Who scored the most premier league goals last season, that was not a striker?

    Bale - 21?
    Michu - 18?
    Lampard - 15?
    Walcott - 14?

So michu plying his trade alongside 3 players whose teams finished top 5, yet unlike those 3, haven't the quality around him. (no offence to our guys, great players that they are :p)

I was going to post something quite similar. You also have to consider the fact that Michu has had a call up to the Spanish side. Only 'top' players get called up to that squad given the talent of the current Spanish set up.

Michu for me is not far short of a top player, and I cannot believe some Jacks think he's well down the pecking order from the likes of Aguero etc! When you look at his last season, his work rate this season too, and he'll get a respectable goal tally again this season, and then throw in his Spain call up, then I think his game is not far away from being classed as a top player, give him another season, and he'll be there, because he has the desire temperament passion and skill to do it!...............<ok>

DPJ: "not far away from being classed as a top player"

swanselona: "I mean he must have something"

We all agree then, so this is a nothing argument. Why "can't you believe" my comment DPJ when you also seem to agree with my assessment? <doh>

This is semantics. I understand you being protective of our best player and I'm not having a go at him one bit. My point is that the very best players almost always play for top 4 teams, are valued 4 times that Michu is and get paid 4 times his salary. They also tend to play Champions League football and are first choices for their national team. I accept there are exceptions here and there.

All this may happen for Michu but he ain't there just yet. My own view is that he's not as good as Aguero, Suarez or Negredo, but in fairness as has been pointed out Michu isn't an out and out striker, and is something that Del Bosque doesn't get. I don't see a problem with that. If you don't agree then fine.

I can only think of three players on this planet valued at £90 million, that's right, Michu is valued at £30M. Why? The football world consider him one of deadliest midfielders in the sport.

Swansea might value Michu at £30M but whether someone would buy him at that price remains to be seen. I agree he's an extremely effective AM with bags of talent but he ain't an Ozil. Now that's a 'top' player, and perhaps that's a better comparison. Michu is at a slightly lower level imo and there's no shame in that.

OMG, we could turn out to be an average Premier League side, well we would have bitten off your hand for that a few years ago and so would the 72 league teams and half of the PL teams.

Our expectations have grown, that is all. If we stay up that is our aim, anything else is a bonus.

We Swans is only average in the Premier league. We play in front of only 20,000. We don't sell out completely. How terrible are we? We only just compete with Man U, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, where oh where are we going wrong! Playing football with the ball on the ground no wonder we can only manage 11th position, life is so bleak. We only really have Europe to look forward to, some game against Valencia or someone. Some nobody called Laudrup managing us, Chairman who is a fan. Why can't we have some foreign owner like Cardiff? Why can't we have a great Welsh manager like Mark Hughes? Think I'll hand my season ticket back in protest!
