The way that we were playing even under Ralph was relegation form, we were getting worse match by match.
Problem is that doesn't account for the second half of the season collapse we had under him for every season bar the one with an enforced 3 month break. So that probably takes that 35 to 27/28
In the four seasons where he was around in the second half, we closed strongly twice (2018-19, 2019-20) and collapsed twice (2020-21, 2021-22). Basically impossible to say how we'd have done with him, really, because the hallmark of Ralph's teams was that they would string together 2-3 months where they played like Champions League winners at some point in the year, while playing like 2007-08 Derby for the rest of the year. He might've gotten us to 45 points, and he might've gotten us to 20.
Well I was only including his full seasons as you can't really comment on a managers teams collapsing in second half of a season when he only joined in December. But in those 3 full seasons we collapsed in 2 and didn't in the other which wasn't a normal season. I agree it's basically impossible but again history suggests that Ralph's run of making us look like world beaters were when he had a decent goalscorer in top form. Not sure how that would have happened this season, suspect his 'good' runs would have yielded far less points due to this - For example I think United at home was our second best performance under Ralph this season after Chelsea but we lost it 1-0.
At least we had a plan and a clear way of playing under him. This current team under Selles is absolutely atrocious. Just aimless running and passing it out of play. Horrific. I am absolutely baffled at just how bad we are right now.
You're right it's a pretty ****e analogy but I was just pointing out that we were performing poorly even then.
We went from like 2/10 performances to -10/10 performances. Truly incredible how badly the club have ****ed this season up. Even though we’ve known for ages I am still utterly stunned at how bad we are
