I'd be disappointed if he left for West Ham, but I do expect him to move onto bigger and better things. I wonder who we'd go for if he left. Seems about time for a random coaching staff baptism of fire again...
Everton or the Hammers probably and word from my mate in the know Nolan or Lee Clark for 10 Bob a week, only saying.
Suspect that would be the amount to buy out the final year of his contract so he is paid over ~120k per week
I think its 4.2m a year so 81k a week. The 6m is just his break clause he supposedly requested and the amount they agreed on. The thing is if he resigned, what could they do if he subsequently went to West Ham for instance. Surely he could just say to West Ham "I'll resign and you give me 5m signing on, saving you 1m"
I'd be well happy if he came to West Ham, but can't really see it, Ashley is a bit of a cock but he ain't anywhere near the level of Sullivan.
I'm with Free-dor here, people massively over-exaggerate how little Ashley has put into the club by cherry-picking certain transfer windows. The truth of the matter is that on 11th July 2015 we signed Wijnaldum for £14.5m, when you then take into account signing on fees and agents fees it was more like £17m. IN ONE DAY!! Extrapolate that out over his 10 years and I think you'll find that (365 x 10 x 17,000,000) he's laid the equivalent of £62bn pounds on the table. Yet still deluded fans talk about net spend, or days when we spent less or even made money as if they are relevant. Idiots.
Pellegrini seems to be coming to West Ham, so I assume Rafa is staying put, can't see him going to the blue side of the Mersey
Yes and when your a, owner you have to do it every season or you'll struggle and possibly go doon or you sell up and move on.
The Mirror - our official media partner - have said there is an agreement there now although I'll believe it once its over the fabled line. http://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2018/05/2...between-mike-ashley-rafa-benitez-huge-claims/ “Rafa Benitez decided to stay at Newcastle, where owner Mike Ashley has agreed to bankroll a summer spending spree. “West Ham made him their first choice and were initially confident of landing him after receiving a positive response following initial contacts with his camp. “But the Londoners finally admitted defeat last week after learning Newcastle were prepared to back the fan-favourite Spaniard in a bid to keep him.” Would make sense as WH have gone after Pelegrini now but again I'll believe it when I see it. But something positive for a Monday morning....(hopefully)
No suggestion of a new contract being signed by Rafa. Probably waiting to see if Mikey keeps his word, assuming story true, before committing to new contract.
Yeah like I say, I'll believe it when I see it but it s probably the most positive news out there atm
If I were him I'd tell him I'd sign a new deal after the Jan transfer window slams shut, forcing Ashley's hand both this summer and again in Jan if we need to strengthen. We're all assuming that no takeover is gonna happen of course.
I'll believe it when its announced. However I think they'll reach and agreement. We'll spend money despite the accounts, and I'm sure it will be in line with our rivals. We just need to spend it wisely and get same smart business done. We basically have to do a better job than they do with their money. This is standard though as we don't have the finance to outspend people. Rafa will have been working long and hard over the who he thinks fits the bill for what he wants. He has been hit and miss in terms of signings while with us. The bottom line is though the ones he has bought have seen us promoted and finish mid table. Rafa would clearly like the flexibility afforded to McClaren. I'm not sure whether our finances would allow that at this stage but you'd have more trust in Rafa to manage the resulting purchases whatever our spend is. I'm not concerned at all, I think Rafa will stay and Ashley will do whatever he can without putting us at risk to make it happen. Lets not forget Rafa will have been good for Ashley financially too.
