Whilst we've had a tumultuous transfer window, I actually think that we're stronger than last season. Despite the loss of our best creative players, they actually gave us very little in the second half of last season. I think their obvious want away attitude outweighed any benefit they had in our squad and it's actually a blessing that they are no longer at Arsenal.
In all the areas that we were found out last season, we've added strength and experience.
I'm under no illusions that we can compete with Utd and City this season, they both look like they are going to run away with it.
But I reckon we'll give Chelsea, Liverpool and yourselves a good battle for 3rd to 5th.
Sticking my neck on the block, I reckon we'll get 4th.

  2. You got torn apart by United, lost to an unconvincing LFC (who were today beaten by Stoke), and you struggled to beat Swansea at home.

I really don't understand how you can be so confident.

The Utd and Liverpool games were prior to aforementioned transfers.
    and then we won today.

  4. Only because Swansea's goalie made a stupid error. But for that, you didn't look at all good, at home, against a side that will probably be relegated.

Fair point, but a win is a win and worth it's weight in gold for both the points and the confidence.
We've got a team who need to gel, a win today will help that happen quicker.
We've also got players to come back from suspension and injury.
    I think we'll improve.
    I'd expect us to improve

Anyone else seen the Liverfool's comments on their loss to Stoke? Pretty funny excuses! Such as this one:

"The pitch problem does need addressing - as the commentators pointed out during the game, the grass was deliberately long in order to slow down the passing. It was clearly a tactic aimed at our style of play, but it should be something the FA need to crack down on. It's hard enough playing away without encountering unfavourable pitch conditions as well."

Tumultuous as in disorderly, agitated or turbulent.

Re: infamous - that would suggest it was a bad thing. For us it was the opposite <ok>

You say that now Piskie, but if I'd have suggested the transfers that you did in this window at the end of last season, then'd I'd have been slaughtered for it.

  16. Spot on PNP <ok>

Had any of us had the temerity to suggest on the Arsenal board, at the start of last season (when most Gooners were hopeful, even expectant that Fab would be staying this season) that Wenger should let Fab go and get in Arteta, we'd have been slaughtered and probably banned from their board as being outrageous wums.

A half-interested Fab is still better than a fully-interested Arteta, in my view.

I sort of did, though it was after Fabregas went and it was this season:

  18. To be fair, though, PNP, in your article you do acknowledge that interest had already been shown in Arteta, and on that basis none of the Arsenal faithful could have accused you have been on a wumming mission.

Interesting to note that only a couple of Gooners responded to your thread, one of those made it clear that he thought Arteta would be a poor signing, and the other didn't even have the courtesy to mention his name, suggesting that Fellani and Baines would be better signings.

  19. You're not going to like what I am about to say, and to prove to you that I am not playing the WUM, I'll preface my remark by the comment that I would much rather that Spurs scrap it out for 4th place with Arsenal than LFC.

However, that having been said, I strongly believe that you simply are not good enough for either 4th or 5th this season, and that those two places will be filled by us and the Scousers.

I believe that this is going to be a very tough season for you, and that Wenger is going to struggle to hold onto his job.

  20. That's what's so great about this game, though, isn't it?

Even the professional pundits get it wrong more times than they get it right. What real chance do any of us mere mortals have?

Whatever happens, it's going to be another fascinating season.
